Where did you find your builder?

I'm interested in hearing how you found your builder, and how that method worked out for you, was it through word of mouth, trade ads in freesheets & local papers, seeing them working on a local property, van signwriting, or online advertising?
Were you happy with them, and would you use that method of finding a tradesperson again?
I'm particularly interested in replies from city dwellers, as I have a fairly good idea of how it works in rural Ireland.

Before someone jumps on me as being conducting market research, well yes, sorta, but in a more general "I wonder how it works here" kinda way, rather than to directly target custom.

Mods, if it's inappropriate, then feel free to lock or delete.

Architect - he has a select group of trusted suppliers and top of the list is two particular builders that he has trained to his standard.

The builder knows what is and what is not acceptable to the architect. Really great to see the interaction and quality finish as a client.

They understand that word of mouth and the finished product is what will get them their next job.
