Assuming this is for a purchase and that there aren't particularly complicated issues, it would cost several hundred euros for an inspection and report. Using someone local would be an advantage. http://www.scsi.ie/surveyors/surveyors_search

If it is your own property and your are looking for someone to do a detailed report and/or supervise work, it would cost substantially more.

Shop around and see what prices are available. Explaininh issues you have concerns with and having a link to the property on the estate agent's website would be useful when making enquiries.

for €400 I would think you were quoted for a pre-purchase survey which gives a detailed account of the building and any visible faults but is generally a walk through report. As stated earlier a structural survey which will investigate and report on all structural aspects would cost in the region of €700 plus VAT.
