Boards StreetPass Meet Up

It's been talked about in the past but nothing has really come of it so far. Chances are we'd struggle to have more than a handful of people, but surely there's some people who'd like to come, summer holidays and all that.

Anyway, would any of you be interested in getting a meet up organised. I was thinking Saturday, August 11th as a possible day. It gives people plenty of time to decide and being the weekend it may suit people better. I was thinking Galway or Dublin for possible locations.

Finally a few questions if we successfully got this thing off the ground:

-Where would you like it to be held?
-Would you like it to be Boards members only, or anyone we could recruit to come along?
    -What competitions would you like?

There's a nice Mario Kart trophy collectible on Club Nintendo at the moment, costing 5000 stars, so if each entrant paid a couple of euro I could buy codes on eBay and get the trophy as a prize for a Mario Kart 7 tournament (I'd buy it myself but I'm a broke teen :(). If it went ahead at the date suggested it's unlikely I'd receive the trophy before then, but I could post it to the eventual winner.

Obviously there could be competitions for Kid Icarus, Mario Tennis Open etc. but I'm just coming up with some suggestions.

Feel free to suggest anything, or tell me anything silly I may have overlooked, or simply to tell me how unfeasible this is! :P

Technically speaking, it has nothing to do with 3DS but I'd like to see something pokemon related just cause:D

If people are open to playing with non board members I'm sure there's some Irish people on the onm forums that might be open to the idea.

As for location, I'm quite stumped. If we knew the weather was gonna be at least ok we could go to st.stephens green(assuming it was held in dublin). More realistically though we'd probably need an indoor area, which once again leaves me stumped:confused:

You should go to the pokemon forum. Weekly meet up you know

Thanks for the reply. Incorporating something Pokémon related sounds good ! Perhaps if we held one or two set tournaments and then just played anything we wanted for the rest of the time?

I think the only way we have any chance of a decent number of people at a meetup is if we include non-boards members too, and I'd prefer that really.

I was thinking an outdoor area (St. Stephen's Green if it were held in Dublin, around Eyre Square if we held it in Galway, for example) and just go to McDonald's or something if the weather wasn't too favourable.

Remember to post here if you're interested guys, and anyone else with any suggestions please post them! :pac:

I don't know if there should be that much pokemon, after all they're not even 3DS games:p But Mario Kart 7 would be pretty straightforward considering it's accessibility and that everyone probably has a copy by this point(and isn't there an option so you can download play with 3DS owners who don't have MK7?).

FYI Depending on the date I could also possibly bring along 2 friends with me:D

I think you misunderstood. I mean one or two 3DS game tournaments, and then people just play Pokémon/whatever interests them for a while. Mario Kart 7 would probably be pretty easy to organise, and you're correct that download play would be easy for anyone who doesn't own the game.

It would be cool if you could get some friends too. It would be nice if we could get some more boards guys, so post if you're interested guys. :P

Ok so me and robman60 have been working on this behind the scenes for the last few weeks and we've got it all covered(we think:p).

    So we got a date set for the event and details can be found here;

    http://www.meetup.com/Nintendo3DS/Dublin-IE/765322/

We'll be giving out Kid Icarus:Uprising booster packs (while stocks last;)) and we have a set of Nintendo Hanafuda cards from the Nintendo Star Catalogue as a prize for the Mario Kart 7 Tourney too!:D

If you're interested in attending, we would appreciate if you could RSVP on the above website.

edit: Also If anyone is interested in bringing their Super Mario 3DLand carts we can play first to the finish games simultaneously on random stages for extra bragging rights :D

If anyone has any other suggestions, Kid Icarus, Nintendogs, Star fox, Street fighter whatever, please post so we can have even more stuff to do on the day:)

You can't have a 3DS StreetPass party without the grandaddy of Streetpass, the Pokemon B/W C-Gear survey thingy.
    So...
    How about you play Pokéswingers?
Everyone puts 3 or 6 'mon in their battlebox.
You drop the B/W cart into a goldfish bowl
    Everyone pulls out a cart
You have to battle with whatever mon are in the box
The winner gets bragging rights and "7 minutes of heaven" in a cupboard with a voluptuous Onix.
Then, over the coming months your relationship with Magnezone breaks down because you're constantly asking "was he a better trainer than me?"

I've already organised this for the day. Is it okay if the 7 minutes are with a slightly overweight Chansey instead?

Aw I wish it was in Galway! Probably won't make it, darn.

That sounds pretty fun actually, my pokemon are all pretty terribad though. Still havn't transfered 'em all from HeartGold:p

Wolverine, we were thinking about Galway but we figured statistically there's more people in the Dublin area but whether or not that was the best logic remains to be seen:pac:

Hey guys, I've just picked up on this and started an event for this over on the Facebook page Dublin Pokémon Club. Don't be shy about these things in the future! More Streetpass is a good thing for all! :D

Edit: I've also forwarded the (Meetup) details of this event to community@nintendo.co.uk and asked them to do a shout out for you guys on their Facebook page - that might help :)

Wow thanks so much! That'll be a great help with spreading awareness, dunno why we didn't think of it sooner :p

That's no problem, I'm just sharing the Nintendo love :) It might get a few more heads showing up :)

I recently learned that Nintendo WANT people to organise their own Streetpass meet ups.  A good idea might be to take a few pictures of the day and let them know how the day went using the email address I posted earlier.

I also tweeted this to NintendoUK's twitter page (mentioning it's an Irish event and run by Boards.ie).  I'm not very good at Twitter though so fingers crossed I did it right!

I can't make this event unfortunately.  My passport is being renewed, that and I'll be collecting Pokemon for the Boards.ies from the Keldeo tour/in store download.  For more information on that go here and say hello.

Please do keep organising these in the future, hopefully I can make at least one of these in the future and share all my pink squares in Puzzle Swap. I'm only missing two or three on the New Mario Bros 2 puzzle.

I have a couple of club nintendo codes going spare if they are still being collected for a future meet up, I will round them up and post an update as soon as I know how many I have.

Yeah I'm sure we can manage some photos on the day:D

On the topic of Pokemon, is there any particular pokemon related stuff you normally do on the regular pokemon dublin fan club meetups that we can incorporate? ofc pokemon black and white is a no brainer, but is there any interest in super pokemon rumble? Considering it is the only real pokemon available for the 3DS atm?

@Robbingbandit: Yeah that'd be much appreciated, hopefully this first meetup will go well enough that we can actually make it a semi regular event:D

@Gubbie: There is definitely alot of interest in something similar for Galway, it'd definitely be worth the effort to organise such an event there. Not sure about Cork since you're the first person I've heard from:p

Since I live in London, I'm only get to see photos of what people do at the weekly Pokemon card game meet ups (also known as the League). You'll have to ask the Boards.ie users Popzmaster, SamIamNot and ChrisD for the details.

Pokemon Rumble doesn't have a competitive multiplayer mode, just Streetpass and co-op in some areas. Should players have Pokedex 3D (currently free on the eShop, but will be removed soon), they can help each up fill the Pokedex by sending Pokemon. A fun game I unknowning played at a Streetpass party involved doing this and seeing who nicked the Pokemon I was sending to another user. It was even more fun when two people were "sending" data and three or more were "receiving". Who got what? Nobody knows!

Another idea is the play multiplayer "Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs", this DS game supports up to four players all of which must own a cart. Other Pokemon multi-cart games include "Pokemon Dash" (2-6 players), and the "main games" certain mini games can be played with 4 players.

"Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky" and "Pokemon Link" (Trozei in the US) both allow downloads of a demo, with Link allowing the demo users to play multiplayer (2 players).

If my Street pass hits are anything to go by, there's no one in Cork! I got more street passes in 2 weeks in Cork then about 4 months in Cork :(

    I'm coming from Mayo!

@Mods: Could one of you edit thew date into the title just in case anyone's missed this.

If there's anyone living around the Dublin area in particular we'd really appreciate if you'd make the trip into the city. Who knows, you may win some cool stuff too! :pac:

Ok guys just a little reminder to those who're interested, we're meeting up at 2pm in St.Stephens Green Shopping Centre on the 1st floor in the seating area, where the benches are. Don't forget the winner of the Mario Kart tourney wins a set of Nintendo Hanafuda cards and bragging rights, so get practicing!:D

We might be able to get some games of KI:U, Mario Tennis, Pokemon BW, SSIV, Starfox or whatever if theres enough interest so bring whatever games you want and we'll go from there:)

    edit: 2pm tomorrow, that is:p

    Okay, full write up!

I headed towards the St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre with some time to spare just so I'd be there on time. I told Jaydoxx I'd wear a Mario T-shirt just so there'd be some way of knowing who I was.

To be honest, I was expecting it would just be the two of us as only three of us had said they'd be attending, and I had no way of contacting the other guy.

Jaydoxx was already waiting and we had just said hello when another guy, Rob, asked if we were here for the StreetPass meetup! Once we had three people I was happy as I guess that constitutes a group! Within another couple of minutes Alan (I think that's his name, correct me if you're reading this!) arrived and we exchanged puzzle pieces and played StreetPass Quest! The weather was excellent so we decided we'd head over to Stephen's Green and play some games there. We were just a couple of races in when Alan got a call from another guy who was looking for us! After a little confusion we found Andy, and we returned to the shopping centre.

Once there we did some more five player races, and soon after another guy showed up with his and his girlfriend 3DSes. He only stayed for a couple of minutes but it was enough to grab some new pink pieces!

Andy had to leave after we were finished racing, but the rest of us went to this retro game shop called Rage which was really awesome! Rob had to go after this but the last three of us went to Forbidden Planet. After all that walking we needed some food. As the baby of the group I was left with the responsibility of choosing where to go! :pac:

After that we went our separate ways, all agreeing what a great day it was. The 3+ hours flew for me and we've already made preliminary plans for the next meetup. So, in total we had 7 people (although Lordy and his girlfriend only stayed around for a few minutes, we still all exchanged StreetPasses and chatted for a bit). We also were getting hits while playing games so maybe some people just walked by or something :P

It was great to meet you guys and by the end of the meeting it was hard to believe we'd only known each other for a few hours!

We're hoping to have the next meetup in Galway around Halloween time, so hopefully that will be even bigger and better than this one!

See you next time guys!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭jaydoxx

I got 13 hits in one day, absolutely great, robman won all the races of course haha

We're thinking of having the next one in galway just because of all the interest and maybe alternating between galway and dublin so nobody loses out on the chance to come down:D

We do need to find a better location though so we can sit down and have a good chat. With winter only around the corner I don't think we'll be able to get away with sitting in the park in St.Stephens green with winter only around the corner. If anyone has any suggestions for places in both galway and dublin it'd be great to hear some ideas from you:)

Hope to see all ye west-coasters next time!:D

Though you might like to know I got a reply from the Nintendo 3DS Community this morning. Not much, but at least we know they are listening :):
    Hiya

We aren't allowed to post about 3rd party events at the moment on our official channels :(
Sorry! We are working on it though and do keep letting is know about these events, so we can see about supporting them.

I've been on hols so missed this one!

Thats great! We can do it with any bit of extra awareness:D

So I got my timetable and calender for the year and I get my halloween break from friday 26th of October to Monday 5th. Assuming everyone gets off school etc. around the same time I suggest Saturday 27th of October or Saturday 3rd of November for the next streetpass event.

Edit; just had a crazy thought. Why don't we do Galway and Dublin one week apart? I might not be thinking straight and this could quite stupid but for the people who live in the Galway area and Dublin area both not to miss out:P I'd be up for it anyway, but maybe that's because I already live in Dublin. What do you think? Bad idea?
