Picked up a second hand SSD there a couple of weeks ago and would like to use it in the PC in the sitting room. So looking for some suggestions on what I can install etc.

    PC Spec

    Fujitsu Scaleo P AMD athlon x 2 (64bit)
    1GB Ram
    1GB video card

Would also like to use it for some gaming, some old shooters etc, would I be able to install windows 7 64bit or is there another open source option that would be fairly user friendly and play the kids games.

Win7 will be quite tight on a 30GB SSD.

You'll have to make an effort to keep it slimmed down and not let it get too bloated over time. Once you do that it should be fine.

32-bit will be a couple of gig smaller so I would go for that if possible.

Something like Ubuntu will be very light, take up less room, reasonably easy to use and you could put emulators on for the kids.

30GB is ok for windows 7, but i would definitely go with 32 bits, not only there is no reason to use 64, but it uses more ram and ssd space
