Where are you on the global fat scale,i did take a few seconds to fill this out,i am currently 11 stone and 5''5 inches i am about 1 stone overweight,at my slimmest i am 9 stone, but recently i have been indulging in leonidas chococlates so i can see why i cant shift the last few,at my heaviest which was just over last year,i was 15 stone..

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18770328

Do you want to know where you are on the fat scale?Have you seen the ads on TV about cutting out the spread,i got the standardised waist measurement off my local doctor recently they are free to pick up in any GP's or chemists..

Does it bother you what weight you are,do you think its important to keep track of your BMI and your weight?

I am from New Zealand according to this but it is a flawed measure. Muscle weighs more than fat. According to this I am overweight but not really.

As with all large data sets, there is a margin of error in this calculation, something statisticians call "standard deviation". This is indicated on the graph by the faint band either side of your indicated BMI measure.
theres BMI measurements for that,i suppose what they are trying to do is give you an idea.I think ireland is getting pretty bad,its not a huge epidemic or anything, but we have the highest ratio for bowel cancer and chrons disease, which says a lot about our diet lacking in the right kind of unrefined fibres..

I guess BMI works for anyone who does no sport of any kind but once other factors come into play it becomes worthless. If you enter Usain Bolt's stats into the calculator he would probably come out as obese.

South Africa apparently, I'm below the Irish average. But BMI is really inaccurate. I'm not at all skinny.

    Ireland's statistic is rubbish.
Our average BMI lower than Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Croatia.
    Nonsense!

I really don't pay any heed to BMI at all as I think it is very flawed.

If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would remove 2,750,458 tonnes from the total weight of the world's population

I used to think that too.

But unless you have an appreciable amount of muscle, it's actually not that bad of an indicator as to where you are weight wise.

My Bmi is 29.1. This says I'm overweight and close to the obese line.

In reality, I'm nowhere near obese but I would be a bit overweight.

    It's a rough guide & it's not a completely terrible one.

...if you're lean and muscular, you're probably ok and BMI doesn't apply

...if you're fat and train in a gym and have a bit of muscle, you're probably fat and BMI isn't all that bad a measure.

Some people have a tendancy to exaggerate their height a bit. To such an extent that they actually believe that they're an inch or two taller than they really are. Very few people actually measure their height for these calculations they just stick in what they "know". Weight on the other hand tends to be accurate enough due to the frequency of measurment.

For the record I come in at a BMI of 24 and apparently I am from Sierra Leone. I find it odd that I come in at the top end of the "nomal" scale given that I have a 31.5 inch waist (around the belly button).

misleading title. It's a BMI measure across a number of countries. No measurement of fat took place, just a quick and very rough (and many would argue very incorrect) correlation of a persons height and weight,

    I'm at 28 BMI and have a 31" waist.

You dont have to do too much training especially anything with resistance to get a distorted reading on a BMI chart.

It does give you a rough estimate though, better that than nothing,i know what you mean,i find it hard to get a full reading and thats frustrating..

The global fat scale is about as informative a reading your horoscope to be fair.
It doesn't really tell you anything about anything.

I'd agree with this. My BMI puts me in obese but I'm carry a decent amount of muscle, I hope. I'm not lean though, so it's not that wrong just a little off kilter. When I can see my abs and my BMI says I'm overweight or more than likely still obese I can then offically ignore it. But the fact I know all this means I don't worry about BMI.

NO,i would completely disagree with that,it does tell you where you are at,it gives you an indication, a rough estimate of where you are at,so you got something to work from.

A lot of people who go on about BMI being useless because is doesn't account for muscle are making excuses for that bit of extra fat they carry. The people who are genuinely carry so much muscle that BMI is completely useless, don't need validation from a magic number.

    Your numbers
    Obesity Index
    34bmi
BMI is an estimate of how "overweight" or "obese" a person is National
    Above average
You have a higher BMI than 98% of males aged 30-44 in your country Global
    Above average
You have a higher BMI than 99% of males aged 30-44 in the world

    Did you know?
If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would add 121,878,453 tonnes to the total weight of the world's population
You're most like someone from Micronesia*
    * Compared with other males aged 30-44 in Micronesia

Ha, That's funny I'm not really overweight I'm muscular and blocky for my height. But I'm not too sure did I enter my height correctly, I'll measure it tomorrow.

I'm male, 18, 5 foot 7 inches tall and I'm 8 stone 6 pounds in weight and apparently I have a below average BMI even compared to a male from DR Congo. Does this seem right to you? :L
I know I'm skinnier than most men from Ireland but DR Congo? How is that possible? :L

    Edit: 18 BMI too.

Pretty ridiculous, my BMI was 34 and I got Micronesia which was the top ranked Country for High BMI, Lovely !

Also their info is either really bad research or fed in by a lot of liars as apparently I'm in the top 2% in Ireland with my BMI yet in my job I honestly see a few thousand people pass by me a day and I am definitely not in the top 2% of fattest Irish on any given day, very poor piece BBC !

Lovely kick to the Ego there !

BMI has it's uses, I'm not arguing that.
But The Global Fat Scale does not have any individual use other than some mild entertainment.
How does knowing that I have a similar BMI to Swiss people contribute to knowing "where I am at" exactly?
Should I aiming for Angola or Tonga? :D

But which are you talking about? BMI or the Global Fat Scale?

BMI can be useful for certain people, but it definitely has its flaws.

But the Global Fat Scale though? In what sense would that be useful? How does knowing how I compare to someone from Iraq or someone from Brazil prove in any way beneficial to me personally?

How the hell can this be right ?

    I'm 29 male, 5ft 11 and 88kg

    BMI 27
You have a higher BMI than 87% of males aged 15-29 in your country.
You have a higher BMI than 90% of males aged 15-29 in the world.

I thought there was an obesity epidemic !! Cant be much of an epidemic if 88kg for a 5,11 fully grown man gets into the top 10% fattest people 15-29 in the world.

Overweight problems tends to be more common as people get older.
So you are being compared to fittest and most in shape age demographic. Don't underestimate the amount of skinny Asians in the world.
