    Hi Biffontour,
When i first started cycling i got a di vinci. After 2 months i went and bought a giant. The bike sent the majority of its time being mended in my lbs, id stay well clear of di vinci. You can get a very decent second hand road bike with e400, keep an eye on the adverts page.

Thanks for the advice, I've been looking at a few second hand too and there seems to be plenty around. I was looking at 2 other ones for around the same price, A Castello - Monza and Claud Butler - Elite. Would you know anything about them?

    is it davinci?

I started off on one, €400 might be steep for 2nd hand, but theyre not a bad bike, not an ounce of problems, not even a puncture! AFAIK, and open to correction, they're 'rebadged' Giants.

Why do cheap road bikes always have crazy handlebar angles/brake lever positioning?

I have the bike since July2012, I've put up nearly 2000km on it so far. The bike is well worth the money. The service from the Mcloughlin's is great. I had no issues there at all. I got the bike delivered to the door. It comes in a big parcel and has to be put together which is quiet easy, you just have to set it to your own size and position, YouTube helped a lot actually!! It's quiet a heavy bike compared to others but not a problem for me. The only thing I changed were the tyres and rim tape as the ones that come on the bike are fairly basic, i put synthetic rim tape and Bontrager tyres on. makes a big difference. The gears are spot on, very easy and accurate to use, brakes are fine too. It's a great bike for a beginner like myself. Hope this helps
