    Hi folks
Doing a Ber assessment on a set of appartments. They are fitted with a gas combi boiler. When I go to submit the info in to deap. There are 4 different options for the boiler set up as follows
Instantaneous with keep hot facility controlled by clock
Instantaneous without keep hot facility controlled by clock
Instantaneous with keep hot facility not controlled by clock.
    Storage combi boiler > = 55 liters
    Storage combi boiler< 55 liters

Then below this there are 3 different options for type of keep hot facility if one exists?
It asks Electric keep hot facility?
    1 None
2 Electric keep hot facility controlled by clock?
3 Electric keep hot facility not controlled by clock?

The boiler is in a press in one of the bedrooms.
In the living area there are 2 switches like a light switch with a red light above.
One switch is at bathroom door and the other near a bedroom door.
Please see photos of boiler attached. Wondering could anyone advise me to which option I should choose? Its all a bit confusing to me

    would really appreciate someone's help
    Cheers

Most of them just wet and hold a finger in the air!
Afterall isn't it just a 'best guess', or is it all a 'bit confusing' ?

I might be doing a Ber but I'm certainly no expert. Scraped through exam!

I was asking a plumber, mate of mine and He wasn't sure either.

Will have to go with best guess if no one has any better ideas

can you not ring seai and ask them for guidance

We understand the question completely, it's just a case of 'shouldn't you understand it also' being a competent BER assessor?

And the info of 'it's a combi' isn't quite enough, make, model etc as there is many types, can see its a Vokera compact from the pics, what kw?

It wouldn't ask SEAI either, blind leading the blind, info of products should be sought from the manufacturer

I don't blame the player I blame the game, why is it acceptable in this country to run training schemes that don't produce qualified people, why bother with the "training" we're just pretending.

It reduces the ability of those that are qualified to do the job to earn money and the customer doesn't know if they are getting what their paying for.

    Agreed....

FTR...Instantaneous without keep hot facility controlled by clock (you can see the clock is integrated on the front panel (so no part L compliance then!!)

Yeah I wanted to check this out before I printed cert. IF I knew everything about doing Bers I'd have a different job! Better to ask when in doubt

    Thanks

Would have ASSUMED if you knew everything about BER you should be a BER assessor?
    Funny comment!

What I mean is I don't believe there is a Ber assessor out there that knows absolutely everything about building energy rating. We need to achieve 70% in the exam every 2 years to continue working as an assessor. If you want to teach Ber you obviously need a higher %. Think its 85 or 90. So one can pass the exam without knowing everything.
I know there is a lot of room for improving the whole set up. But thats just the way it is and a lot of us have put a lot of time and money in to it and got very little back to date. Hopefully things will improve.

    Thanks for your help

To prevent grumpy old men jumping on your case :eek:you should google the make and model, you will normally find the information you need from the manual or brochure.

I can't personally understand how anyone who does not have a background in (civil?) engineering, could possibly be a BER assessor, it's crazy.

I had an ex-policeman, turned BER assessor tell be how 'in-efficient' an oil condensing boiler is once the house reached temperature, think he watched too much 'about the house' with 'Dunkin the doughnut' (admitted by him as to where he 'learned' it!

The reality is that it will never change, afterall no one os going to die over it, in my industry people can die over it and they can't even regulate that correctly!

I agree with you. I have a degree in engineering (but not civil). Background in construction though. Are you Jack Nicholson?:)

Always! (maybe more of a Victor Meldrew actually, Jack at least gets the gals!)

But I did give you the information you wanted also
Gary is just a lovely man, with a positive outlook on life who adores the industry he works in and the manner in which it's regulated.

Yeah I appreciate that, even if I had to work for it!
No bitterness... Might need some help in the future;)
So better not be falling out!

    G night

Yeah of course, it's a lot of banter here as well as all else.
Deep down we do want to help and are not as bitter as we seem
