    Hi all!

I volunteer at a local community radio station. I have now moved away from the local community but I still continue to do the show once a week.I enjoy doing it but it costs me to do it. I am an hour away from the studio and an hour home and with the cost of petrol and not getting paid to do the show it doesnt make sense.
Any ideas on howI could possibly record the show from home using my laptop and some recording software. I know the radio uses Cool Edit so maybe I could download that to my laptop. The show is primilarily playing CDs and a bit of chat.

    Any advice?Thanks

    You could use cool edit.

Or any software that allows you to create a podcast.

You pre-record the show at home. And send the radio station and mp3 of the recording.

Cool Edit or Audacity will do you for this purpose.

Record your links then import your song, link, song, link, song etc.

Depending on what broadcasting software you use you should be able to use MP3. I'd go for 320 kbps MP3. If your station streams it could stream in less so you will loose quality there but my point is, like in the station itself, you start with the highest quality audio you can and then it gets downgraded at the transmission stage.

Since your whole show will be going out over your broadcast software, that probably has some compression and things built in so do not compress the music again in Cool Edit or Audacity. Maybe a slight tad on your voice and let the broadcasting software do the rest.

Not too familiar with the broadcasting/ radio (it's actually something that I'm looking to get into though) but, wouldn't you be better off sending them a .WAV file?

Wav would be better but when you have hour or more long shows it became a pain to send around.

I was the Head of Sound at a student radio station and I loved my WAV files but it depends on the person who is putting it together. We only streamed on the internet at 320, 192 and 128 MP3 so I was happy with the 320 MP3.

You could use Audacity. It will create most file types depending on what the station uses. It's easy to use and it's free!!

I'm currently on the lookout for a program called Muse by Dyne http://muse.dyne.org/. That will allow you to stream live directly to the station and them to broadcast from there!!!
