Could'nt see a thread about this. With part 2 out in Aug,I was wondering has anyone else looking forward to part 2 King of Thorns. I loved the first part and there was lots of LOL moments for me.I'm hoping Prince Jorg does'nt change too much,as its his dark side that appeals to me.Although I am hoping some of the other characters are developed more.
"Dark and relentless, the Prince of Thorns will pull you under and drown you in story. A two in the morning page turner."
    Robin Hobb

"This is a lean, cold knife-thrust of a novel."
    Robert V.S Redick

"Excellent and dark. A Great new talent."Conn Iggulden

"Prince of Thorns is the best book I’ve read all year."
    Peter V Brett'

"Prince of Thorns got hold of me from page one and didn’t let go until I finished it on my second reading session on the second day. There’s humour here, gut-wrenching realism, high adventure, something that might be magic in the story, and certainly is in the telling of it. It was almost as if the shade of David Gemmell had returned, somewhat nastier for the experience. Thoroughly recommended. Thanks Mr Lawrence"Neal Asher

Was thinking about starting it but i'm on waaay too many unfinished series at the moment and couldn't take another. Very tempted by it though.

Give it a shot, I promise you will like it.

Took me a week or so to get through the first few chapters and after that I flew through and like Paddy there, I am really looking forward to the next one.

Kinda reminded me of King's Dark Tower series in bits.

It is a great read. A nice change to read from the angle of the "baddies" or whatever way you want to put it. Bought it on a chance without having heard anything about and it paid off. Really looking forward to the next book.

I'm liking it, its unusual thats its fantasy with magic set in our world. He's right evil little git.

Ok got to about 60% in the book, something happened, i went huh re-read it. Really liking the book now, very close to the end had to give up last night when i couldn't keep my eyes open.

Just finished part 2 ,King of Thorns, not as LOL as part 1,but still top notch.I like the way Laurence writes ....very entertaining,I love his humour.
Jorg's continous out-smarting of his enemies was getting a bit annoying.
but overall the story more than made up for it.
    Can't wait for part 3.:D

Great series, agree that some of the outsmarting everyone all the time was wearing but Its still a good read with more than a couple belly laughs.

Just finished Emperor of Thorns and loved it. Was a great conclusion to what has been a surprisingly good trilogy. I loved his world building and Jorg was as likable as he was despicable.

    Anyone else finish it?

Read the prince of thorns, didn't like it at all,far too gritty for my liking.

~Only discovered the series this year, read them back to back. Have to agree that the ending was very very good. Definitely left of field compared to the usual tropes.

Whats Emperor of thorns like in terms of comparison to Prince and King (which the spoilers are for).

I struggled through those two mainly because they were on audiobook where I could listen to them in work and I really liked the Medieval/Fantasy 'Fallout' style universe.

But after a while the sheer super human abilities of Jorge really began to grate.

I get that he's smart, but his constant outsmarting and the way everything slots together is more like what happens in a bad tv series.
    But its the fact that
he's also just amazing at everything I think in the last book he kills 15 people single handed and AFAIK thats not because of any undead magic or the 'magicians' influencing him, its just him being a 14 year old killing machine
    .

This would be tolerable if there was a strong supporting cast of characters you could identify with and have a bit of suspense about them surviving but the way the book is written means that everything is completely Jorge centric so even Makin feels like a bit character whereas in a more bog standard Fantasy series there is at least a few characters your emotionally invested in so one or two can be killed of for suspense.

Also this might be a strange complaint but does anybody else feel that the books would be stronger if they stuck to their guns of him being a b@stard more or rehabilitated him to a much greater extent after the events of Prince.
An example of this is, is the fact that he didn;t rape the princess character and instead goes and gets revenge, at the start of the first book its mentioned that he rapes the peasants and at another point in Princes something similar is mentioned about the castle servants, but none of these are actual characters or things that happen directly in the book, I feel the author is afraid of making him too dislikable which to me actually makes me dislike him as a character more, similar thing with the Prince of Arrow if his brother hadn't killed him what would Jorge have done.

I might end up getting these new ones because I love the world thats been created and I do think Mark Lawrence is a pretty good writer but I just wish he could have done things a bit differently and created a true classic
