Hi I just bought a 99 200sx s14a it has 17" enkei wheels upgraded exhaust (though could be better) air fliter (just for show I don't think it's feeding in any cold air) hks boost gauge and turbo timer and a 2 way cusco diff. I've around 2000 to spend on it I'm getting coilovers from barrymotorsport in cork for 800 ( don't know the brand) and I was wondering does anyone have any opinions on what I should spend the rest on. Thanks :)

Ditch the stock Intecooler and install a proper front mounted one, get some quality piping along with it, get an electronic boost controller, fuel regulator, uprated fuel pump and get her mapped. ;)

Is it for road use ? if so do you really need coilovers ? Unless you really need/want them I wouldnt bother, Irish roads are ****e and badly set up coilovers wont help. Make sure you buy very good tyres.

Thanks a million for the replys much appreciated :) I was told by the lad I bought it off of to put an intercooler into just so it would run safe alright. I'm using it as an everyday car so would I get a horrific shock in mpg if I put in a upgraded fuel pump?? Yeah it's for road use. So would coilovers alone make no difference in handling or would I have to put in struts aswell to keep it more rigid??

in theory yes, upon being configured correctly along with the diff mentioned.

struts and such will see her slightly more rigid i would imagine but keeping the basics covered like using the best tyres available for the stupid irish weather makes all the difference...

imo: put in the coils you like, pref getting the prefared ones form the owner club/drift forums... drive it for a week or two then go about getting the most experienced of the guys to help you Tweak it for better handling and comfort* ( * where possible ) then go about keeping her as cool and possible give her a full serivce and polish then get her tuned, keeping you're spare cash for bargain buys from ebay & club members while at the same time planning your next moves.

If you get coilovers which use spring rates suited for road use then you will be fine. Driftworks control system coilovers are excellent as are HSD's own brand ones(HSD make the DW ones). I had DW's drift/track bias coilovers and even on a mid setting they were still very usable on the road.

As for strut braces, you'd get vastly more improvement with uprated anti roll bars and, if willing to go a bit further again, poly bushes all all around, keeping in mind that the standard rubber bushes will be pretty tired at this stage.

With regards to tuning.....rule one.....DO NOT touch the boost until you have a decent front mount intercooler, uprated fuel pump and a good quality electronic boost controller.
The above, along with a decent intake and a decat exhaust will see in the region of 245-255hp on a healthy engine with the boost set to 0.85 bar max.

An higher flow fuel pump will not effect fuel economy as it only pumps what the ECU asks it to. It just means that when the ECU needs to increase fuelling to match the increased colder air charge from the intercooler/air filter then the fuel pump will be up to the job as, again, the factory pumps can be getting on a bit and are prone to failing.

The 'pigeon' mod is also very popular on the SR20. This is where the standard recirculating dump valve is removed and the fittings blocked. This gives faster boost responce in gear and has yet to give any troubles to healthy turbo's on any engine I've seen or heard of with it done.

Running an aftermarket dumpvalve on an unmapped SR20 usually leads to uneven running and gives no improvement other the the noise.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Id recommend joining the SXOC owners club.

One of the best clubs I ever joined in terms of access to cheaper parts and advice.

As above Nissan Doctor has it spot on.
