Hurling Quarter Finals

Presuming this won't be announced until Monday, but has anyone heard any whispers regarding the venue?

They'll have to be played on Saturday July 21st with the Leinster/Ulster football finals on the Sunday.

Going to be in Dublin that weekend, so I'm hopeful they'll have a double header at Croker, though history suggests Thurles will be the likely destination.

Could possibly have Kilkenny, Cork, Waterford, Limerick/Clare there - 4 pretty well supported teams, so maybe that'll increase the chances of Croke Park?

Also Tipperary getting into the next round of the football qualifiers could affect things if they need to use Thurles.

Why would they drag everyone to Croke Park when Thurles will be a much more easier ground to get to for everyone?

I expect them to be in Thurles on Sunday 29 July.

Not saying it wouldn't be, just looking for reasons as to why it might be in Dublin! ;)

Had assumed they'd stick with the weekend of July 21/22 but you might well be right!

They've been in Thurles for the last few years haven't they?? I expect the same tbh.

Since the move to 2 quarter-finals instead of 4.....

    2011 - Thurles
    2010 - Croke Park
    2009 - Thurles
    2008 - Thurles

2010 may well just have been because Antrim were involved though, and they didn't want to drag them to Thurles!

    Aw right, that's fair enough.

With the teams likely to be involved, it makes sense to have them in Thurles.

Would they not have been in Croker in 2010 because Tipperary were playing Galway? Could hardly have Tipp playing an All Ireland QF on home turf.

Can we wait and see who is in them first perhaps?? Why would Cork, Wexford, Limerick or Clare agree to play Tipp in thurles??

Seems I had the date wrong anyway!

I referenced Wiki instead of the GAA website

July 28/29 for the 1/4 Finals as Martin567 suggested!

Meh, better than travelling all the way to Croker tbh.

I'm the same about Thurles. Impossible to find a place to stay there this weekend though, anyone any suggestions?
