Hi my partner just received a letter from the social welfare saying she owes them 3,348.60 euro due to an overpayment of unemployment assistance dated back to 2007.The dates they quote are wrong (3 month period) as she was working full time and never made a claim during these dates.Could this be a simple mistake and if so how do we go about sorting it out.Thx in advance.

Wow, there are a lot of these letters going out. This one could just be a simple mistake, which should be very easy to prove, but there could be something dodgy like someone claimed in her name.

She should contact the DSP and explain her case.

To be on the safe side set out your case in writing and keep a copy.

she just called to our local social welfare office and they told her they couldnt help her as their computer only goes back 3 years!! They say she must write a letter of appeal and bring it back down and they will process her claim from there.

Well thats baloney... they can access archived claims to see if she had a claim in 2007 and for what period it was paid for.

Exactly what I thought too. They are useless down there. They just didn't want to.She brought down the letter anyway and hopefully that will be the end of it.
