    HTC Desire, Cyanogenmod 7.

I'm trying to get rid of all the default/stock tones, wallpapers and crappy apps in system/media and system/app , but each time I delete them they reappear in their original places after reboot.

I'm using rootexplorer to delete the files.

How can I get rid of them for good?!

Are you S-OFF on your HTC Desire?
From what I can remember, you can't delete system apps/files when phone is booted into OS without this.

when you open root explorer, you need to mount read & write and then delete all the stock apps and whatever you want.

How can I tell if I'm S-OFF? (by the way if it's rooted doesn't that already mean S-off i think? And what's the best way to turn S-OFF?

That's what I did! Mounted r/w and deleted them, but after reboot they appear in the folder again. I'm also trying to delete crappy stock apps like "News & Weather", which also reappear.

edit: Managed to S-OFF the device, I can finally delete the ringtones & bloatware using rootexplorer! Thanks ongarite.
