Anyone working in Dell, Cherrywood currently?

I've been offered a position and I'd like to know what it's like to work there. Its not a sales position, its a technical position.

I've searched boards.ie but there's very little about it.

I worked there for a few years and usually bad mouth the place but really it wasn't that bad.

    Apart from the Engineers.
And the L2's some were great some were useless.
Same for the team leads some were wonderful some just read magazines all day.
Oh and watch out for the engineers. I swear they picked the least technically minded people they could (Not all, just most).
And I'm certain their Quality Control has gotten better now (Look up Dell exploding capacitors and Dell TV's that turned on in the middle of the night.)

So apart from your Manager, your L2, the products you support and the guys you send out to fix them them ...ehm....they had a good canteen.

Actually their customer handling skills training was excellent. But that was done by a 3rd party.

To be honest unless you have a solid job offer from somewhere else I'd take it. Dell despite the moaning I've done was a great place to work. Everywhere has their problems. Just dont spend 5 years doing the same job without a promotion.

No Cuddles, its not a local deskside support job.

Everywhere has its ups and downs I suppose. I'm currently working for HP and to be honest, I'd be amazed if anyone's as bad as they are.

The money is better with Dell and I liked the sound of the training they can offer, seeing as HP can really give you nothing in terms of in house training or even assisted training (I'm paying for a course I'm currently sitting and they wouldn't even cover the exam charge). I've decided the take the role anyway.

    Thanks for the help lads.

Good luck with the new role :)

For what it's worth, I worked in the Enterprise Support team there a few years back and like yourself came from another big US multinational so my experiences were a bit mixed..

    - For the most part there was a good vibe in the place, but there was one particular TL who was far too fond of micromanaging and being very condescending with people (not even on her own team) that I ended up going to the floor manager over.

Way I saw it was that the average age in the place was about 30, not 18 as when I started off in my last place, most had worked in the place for a while or like myself had come from other similar setups and so "knew the drill", but he took the point and after this she was more subdued (never came near me again anyway :)) but she was still there last I heard

    - There were never enough people on the floor and there was a pretty high turnover rate. When I left (less than a year later) virtually all my training class had already gone

    - Training? I've never worked for one of the multinationals where non on the job (or new hire) training is a given without hassle as you describe in your current job. I think it's a marketing pitch they make at this stage so be prepared to pay for it yourself

Still, this was a few years back and maybe things have changed. I know the canteen was massively expanded and they put in other facilities for staff so hopefully the above changed with it :)
