What's the best 42" LED I can get for a grand or less?

It's finally time to get a new tv, but tbh there are so many choices available I don't know where to start. Basically the budget is up to €1,000, although I could be tempted to go maybe €100 over if it was really worth it. For space reasons, 42" is what I'm limited to, but other than that I'm open to anything. Haven't decided if I really want (or need) a smart tv and/or 3D, but haven't ruled them out either. So if anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks.

P.S. I've just received a present of a Samsung HT-D4500 Home Theatre system, if that makes any difference to the brand I should buy?

Does it have to be LED , you know LED has no bearing really on the quality of the picture , its just a different way to light the screen .

The companies marketing departments just went ape**** on it trying to sell more tvs.

In that price range personally i would LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a panasonic plasma.
These are coming with a 5 year warranty as well at the moment as far as i know.

    I would buy this

Which is why I posted here to protect me from my own ignorance. :D

That Panasonic looks nice all right, thanks for the tip.

Also if you arent mad on the plasma (even though they give a superior picture in that price range in my opinion).

Then i would look into the sony LED tvs this month , i picked up last week this model http://www.sony.ie/product/tv-107-42-lcd/kdl-42ex410

    for 599 with a 5 year warranty.

You may go for the next model up but the 5 year warranty with the sonys is great , and they are a lovely tv from a functionality point of view, they are easy to set up, navigate etc.

Maybe something like this, and i know for a fact you would be able to talk the saleman down 5% or more no problem bringing it more into line with your budget http://www.sony.ie/product/tv-117-46-lcd/kdl-46ex653#/TechnicalSpecs

I like the look of the second Sony, but unfortunately at 46" it's too big. The other one looks like it's on the shortlist too.

Any opinions on this? Power City have it for €949 at the moment.

ya that seems like a great tv and should defo be on the list, id depends how much you value having a long warranty , as far as i know its only sony and panasonic giving 5 year warrantys at the moment,
Personally buying such a expensive piece of equipment when the manufacturer only wants a 1 year warranty maybe check out how long the warranty is with the lg before picking it for sure. Otherwise its a great tv
the sony model with the same features etc would be this one

    Zaph,

I'd strongly second the recommendation for a Panasonic plasma - I've had a 42" one for a couple of years and its the best piece of kit I've ever bought, hands down, fantastic picture quality.

While you're at it, have a look on the richersounds forum here on Boards for current pricing on Panasonic from them - well worth checking out.

    Cheers,

    Ritz.
