    Hi ,
I am getting a lesson on friday , but was wondering what fellow boarders
thoughts are on these 2 destructive shots that have crept into my game recently??
And if anyone else suffers from same?
I was told before that they are the same swing fault - coming too far from inside on downswing????

Yeah sounds like that's the swing fault alright. Your either pushing it right (High block right) or turning the club face over and getting the snap hook.

Welcome to my world! The dreaded two way miss! Working on the fundamentals will help. An overly strong grip and inconsistent / poor alignment (one of my main problems) can make this worse in my experience.

Some pros try to teach opposites to fix a fault. As such, you might try doing the opposite move (an out to in swing) as if you are hitting a big slice. What might feel like a big slice swing to you now is probably close to being on plane.

However, you're doing the right thing already by getting a lesson to fix it. Best of luck!

That's the best way to fix a fault like this IMO. I have the opposite problem (out to in) and to fix it I do drills swinging the club in to out. When practicing do exaggerated movements and then your "normal" swing will naturally correct.

I used to have an awful high left cut as my miss (im a lefty). Now my miss is a hook, I think once you learn how to hook the ball then you can fix your slice.

But as said, you can over do it and go extreme either way,u just need to stick with the same grip and swing each time (which is hard for amateurs)

On the whole I think everyone will agree that to hit a straight shot is very difficult ha. My natural shot when im firing well is a nice slight draw which i love. I shudder at the thought of those high fades, high faders and ireland doesnt go well together at all, windy and soft ground=distance killer

I have a similar issue and one of the causes was standing too close to the ball. I didn't have enough room to swing and therefore when my hands were coming down, they were getting stuck and being shoved out away from my body causing a block. Then to correct this, I was pulling my arms back across the ball and when I overdid this, I pulled the ball.

Had exact same problem, only with my driver. Pro pointed out my grip was stronger on my driver than on my other clubs. When it came through closed I was hooking it. When I subconsciously tried to avoid this, I didn't release properly and blocked it. Weakening my grip on my driver slightly sorted it. Until he pointed it out, I would have sworn my grip on the driver was the same as my other clubs.

    Thanks All,
Will be interesting to see what the pro thinks, sounds to me like it could be a bit of everything on here - possibly do stand a bit close, it only happens with Driver and woods off the tee too, grip def quite strong also.
Wouldnt be keen to change grip as i can out of the blue on occasion ,
hit a fade on top of my high right block??
Which is really strange as i am a drawer of the golf ball generally.
This means i am always taking aim down the right hand side of a fairway, which makes this block shot a big problem! The low hook is not so bad as it runs a mile!!:(:(

Slicing/Fading is not generally an issue for me, like you my natural shot is a draw.
This block shot just starts right and goes dead straight high and right:(

    Is your grip too tight?
With a strong grip and a natural draw swing if you are holding on too tight you will prevent/delay the release; swinging in to out with an open club face = high, right, block.

Maybe loosen the grip a bit on the driver and let your release just happen, forget about holding onto that lag for now.

Thanks, really like the sound of that, going out this evening will keep that thought in mind!!

Draw is my natural shot but suffer with hooks/snap hooks quite alot too.

Normally for me its one of 2 things.
    1. Breaking my wrists early in the backswing. This tends to get the club going back around me too quickly and under plane. For a fix I concentrate on taking the clubhead back straight for as far as I can (1 piece takeaway and all that), which helps to keep the head ahead of my hands and promotes a better swing plane.
    2. As Greebo mentioned a tight grip. Im left handed playing right handed clubs so tend to choke it a bit with the left hand. When I dont grab it so tight i straighten her up, but not too loose though as this can fade them and when you aim down the right hand side of the fairway like me all the time is generally a reload.:(

Yeah meant to post update earlier-
Played 18 yesterday and just relaxing the hands def helped alright , hit some lovely drives and 3 woods off the tee .
Still blocked 1 drive off the 3rd and a rescue at the 7th! Only 1 low hook of the 12 th where I could just feel the hands wrapping over !!
Playing partners were very comp of my swing and I know I'm not doing anything ridiculously wrong, just hate the thought that these 2 shots can appear out of the blue!! Thanks again for advice def helped, I think!!
Will post what the pro say after my lesson on Friday.

Update from lesson this morning- pro thought my only issue was my right hand grip - too strong therefore shut at top and then fighting not to get stuck on downswing and either holding club open or turning it over!! Weakened the right hand , feels strange and quite weak but made a huge difference to my strikes!! Not afraid to release the club now and feels more consistent at impact!!!just hope I can keep at it and not slip back to old bad habits:0)

I have the same problem (high left/low hook). The weird thing is that my low irons are generally very straight and flighted very nicely.

I'm starting to think that it might be a shaft issue!!!

Stiff shaft in driver, reg shaft in irons....

You should have your grip looked at also mate, sounds very similar to my issue!
Like you my irons were pretty good but as the pro said to me yesterday - the longer the club gets and the quicker the swing speed get, the timing issue that we may be only just managing with our irons , gets harder and harder. Thus the out come of some good, some high rightand some low and left!! Worth a look , makes a lot of sense.
