    hi just wanted to know would you get the newer rate of tax if you put a 2008 engine into a pre 2008 car thanks :)

    Sadly no. You'll still be caught out on the old rate as the vehicle itself is registered Pre 2008

    Nothing to do with engine age, only car regestration.

    It was to encourage people to buy new diesels along with the scrappage scheme, as soon as it suits the government they will revert to the old cc system and make a mint off of all the new 2 litre diesels on the road

    I would highly doubt they would change back to the old system. More like just increase the current bands of tax year on year.

    All im saying is that i don't expect to be able to tax a 535d in afew years for what a 2010 one can be taxed for atm :p

    I can already see a flood of used Half dead English 530d and 535d storming Ireland after 5 years from now.

    surely tax is cheap! The rest? Who gives a **** about the rest!!! It's torque and low tax!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!! :D
