A mate of mine is travelling to France this weekend for the Etape. He's having trouble getting his bike shipped at a reasonable price. Anyone got any words of wisdom?

At the risk of stating the obvious but could he not bring it on the flight with him?

It wasn't booked with the original ticket and yesterday they were saying that they mightn't have room on the flight for bikes. However, thankfully, it's now sorted and they've agreed to take them:).
