Medical Card Question

Just as a background - I was made redundant 2 months ago and am currently on JSB. My monthly prescription is usually between 85-125 depending on what I get - I don't always take the full prescription to save money. I paid €86 for 2 inhalers earlier and decided with my current circumstances it might be a good idea to apply for a medical card.. I went thru the forms online an I'm guessing due to my redundancy lump sum I've failed on the means test and am only eligible for a GP card. The medical card form didn't ask about any medical conditions/recurring prescriptions - is it just done on means? As it stands my asthma and allergies are well controlled so I only go to the GP every 6 months to get the prescriptions refilled.

According to the HSE's guidelines, if your income is derived solely from Social Welfare allowances or benefits or HSE allowances you should be granted a medical card even though your payment is in excess of the Income Guidelines for your age and situation.

They're taking my savings (ie my redudancy payment) into account I think. Oh well - guess I'll be sticking to my med 1 form! :/
