How long does it take to get a FAS Course and what is their duration?

I ask because I am currently on JSA but will likely be leaving Ireland early 2013.
Next week I must go into the welfare office for an interview regarding why I am still out of work and I imagine they are going to suggest I do some courses, but if there is a long waiting list and they take a long time then will it even be worth my while if I wont be here?

I have been trying very hard to get work and I also have a phone interview scheduled for an internship, but as it stands I am still unemployed. What should I say to the idea of courses if/when it comes up at the interview? I have nothing against doing one but like I said, my time in Ireland could be as little as 6 months.

Check the FAS website www.fas.ie for information on all the courses they are running throughout Ireland. The duration of the courses vary.

FÁS courses vary in length and have varing waiting lists.

As Christmas2012 said, they're sort of not well liked due to them not really being *worth it*, so to speak.

But in either case: you should go into a FÁS office and apply yourself. And some course are most certainly useful than others. Doing a course that's supposed to train you for a job (like working a bar) won't be as useful as doing one with computers.

Just talk to the people in FÁS and they should help you find out what course(s) would be best. Make sure to keep badgering them about getting up the waiting list if there is one.
