Chances of HIV transmission?

Looking for any advice at all about possible HIV transmission.

I was out the other night, went back to a guy's house, slept in same bed, he started pressing his penis against my ass, so I said put a condom on, he said he just wanted to 'pop' me, so I let him put just the head in. I know this is a grey area, but what are the chance of transmission? He didn't cum, but I'm sure there was some precum. He's almost finished studying medicine but on the other hand, does drugs (GHB, coke etc) and has been to saunas. He says he's clean.

I'm still in the 72 hour window...so PEP or not?

    Thanks.

I think you should go to the GMHS immediately (they're open tomorrow from about 5:30 in Baggot Street) and see if you can get PEP. While it may be an exaggerated response, you just cannot be 100% sure if you picked up anything or not.

A similar thing happened to me a little under a year ago, I asked the guy to use a condom but he deceived me (in some countries I could have brought charges against him for this), he didn't cum though. I went to the GMHS the next day, told them my story and the doctor gave me PEP, I had to take it for 4 weeks. It turned out all clear in the end and I found out the other guy got the all clear too but I'm glad I took the maximum possible precautions to prevent a possible infection.

I had no way of knowing at the time if the other guy was infected or not. Even though the other guy said he was clean, I couldn't trust him because he already deceived me. Some may say I overreacted when you look at the probability of getting infected but I'm glad I didn't take chances at the time because I had no way of knowing.

It doesn't matter if the guy's a medical student or not, it doesn't mean he can be trusted; nobody can be trusted. Do you know him long? It doesn't matter if he didn't cum inside you, an infection could still pass on.

It depends on the person, but PEP can make you a bit queasy for a few weeks when taking the medication. Personally, I only had a bit of diarrhea and I was a bit nauseous for a few week (a nurse a the GMHS said that people usually people find it a little worse) but I was willing to make that sacrifice because, again, I hadn't a clue if the other guy was infected or not.

If you're in Dublin make an appointment RIGHT NOW for the GMHS in Baggot Street, they're open tomorrow from around 5:30pm. Phone: 01 669 9553 or Text: 087 941 0934. Do not delay.

Also, in the future, don't let anyone bareback you like this again, even if you know their status and know them for a long time there's always a risk.

Hey, new to this so please forgive me if this is the wrong sub-forum for this topic.

Basically just looking for a bit of help or advice. Last night, I went to Boilerhouse in Dublin for the first time. I heard stories and to be honest, it never really appealed to me. After one too many drinks though - I decided I'd check it out last night. I went by myself, not thinking it was a type of place to go with a friend to "hang out".

I won't beat around the bush - I was an idiot, and stupid and I ended up having unsafe sex with some guy. As soon as I left the place, I'd never felt so groggy and disappointed in myself. It's not something I'd ever done before, and just a moment of pure drunken stupidity.

To say I've spent the last 12 hours in a state of hysterics is a understatement. I've been feeling pretty scared, and don't really know what I'm supposed to do now. I'm wondering if anyone out there has any advice?

I know I should go get tested, and I would do it straight away but a lot of online sources I've seen say it's best to wait 3 months?

Of course there's a chance of transmission. Being a bottom during sex is riskier than being a top. Pedant gives excellent advice above.

I've no idea how it's relevant that he studies medicine unless he told you that it was safe if he didn't cum. If he did that's incredibly irresponsible.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I think because he mentioned he's a medical student, then he must know better and appear safer. If he's going to bath houses and doing drugs then he is at way higher risk because if there's one thing I know about drugs is it makes you do stupid risky things like have unprotected sex and the rest.

I'm not going to go against what Pedant says because this med student is high risk. One thing I'd say is that I doubt the risk is huge, quite negligible but a risk all the same so I think you should look into further advice from a doctor and then decide to start PEP to be safe because you're clearly concerned.

This guy is going to make some doctor anyway!

The doctors in the GMHS don't just hand out PEP to anyone who asks. They will of course go through everything and then advise if it's a good idea.

If he's taking drugs and doing bareback even though he knows the risks of both, it's certainly odd for a medical student.

If he's nearly finished his studies (as the OP mentions) and has important exams coming I don't know why he would want to risk his studies with that sort of behaviour, especially doing drugs.

Of course, it's all speculation, but there are a few red flags the OP has mentioned that would lead me not to trust the guy he was with at all.

I never implied they did, or didn't mean to anyway. But I'm not going to comment on whether this case is severe enough though because it's all up to the OP and what he thinks.

Of course. I just don't see why either or both OPs should delay things further though when they can get advice from doctors in GMHS.

I wouldn't wait till the GMHS opened if the incident has occured long enough ago to be writing about it. PEP loses effectiveness rapidly.

If you think you're likely to want to take PEP, get to James A&E now.

We can't give out medical advice on boards. If anyone has any worries about a medical issue, then go straight to a doctor/ hospital/ GMHP.
