any of you had experience with a broken nose?

Mine was broken about 2 and a half months ago, was back to proper sparring session this weekend, and its broken again after one solid punch connected with it.

is this likely to be permanently weak?

.....yep I will also working on my guard & moving my feet more

I broke mine badly, the bone came through the skin and left me with a scar down my nose. I let it heal for a few months before coming back to sparring and it felt weak for the first while but is fine now. I've had a few good smacks on it and its held up good. Rest it for a little longer and it should heal up fine.:D

bone through the skin! that sounds brutal!

I'll take a break from sparring for another few months so.

Yikes, hardly from punches, was it a knee to the face?

I've had five breaks, 2 from boxing, 2 from TKD and one from a brawl (joys of having a big nose:))over the years and two reconstructions, it's still a bit bent but not as bad as it was. The last three breaks happened because I didn't rest it and allow it to set. I was told 6 months no contact before I go back to heavy sparring. I gave it 6 weeks and ended up regretting it, so give it a good long period so settle other wise it'll hound you and it'll play on your mind. A full face head guard might help also.

Just because you can train doesn't mean that you should. Doctors often say that you can go back to everything when everything is alright but you really shouldn't until everything is perfect. Give it a month after they say you can come back.

    thanks for the replies.

I'm really disappointed that I will have to take a long break from sparring, but Kinda feel better that it wont be permanently nackard, as long as I let it heal up properly.

Get a full face guard, a bit annoying but better than nothing.

    Cheers
I bought a 2nd hand blitz sport head guard with removable grill, will give it a shot see how it works out

I seen topten have a clear acrylic front to go over their head gear, looks great but a bit pricy for me at the moment. Ill give the cheapo blitz one a shot for a bit and see how it goes.

    I reckon it looks a bit like a cross between a power ranger & a gimp mask:D

+1 steer clear of Fite Rite face guards, not only do they crack but they have an extremely dangerous sharpened edge on the INSIDE of the grill which is a bizarre Fcuk up on manufacturing.
