Replacing FreeDos OS?

I found a good price on a laptop online and I presume the reason for the good price is because it comes with the FreeDos OS instead of windows. I have a spare valid license for Windows 7 so is it straightforward to completely wipe this FreeDos sh1te off the hard drive and replace it with W7? Ie. will it replace the bootloader with the Windows 7 bootloader for example? I would want to remove all traces of FreeDos.

And one other question, the laptop comes with 4GB RAM, I would like to have 6GB. Do I void the warranty if I upgrade the RAM? And how much is 2GB of RAM for a laptop anyway, is it the same as for a desktop?

You'll need to post the link, usually replacing RAM doesn't void the warranty. 8GB of DDR3 is around €45.

If you have a full retail copy of W7 happy days.

If it is OEM / supplied with another laptop then you can't move it ever.

if it is upgrade then you need a legit license to upgrade from

If it is upgrade then you can't re-use the license if it's already upgraded a license

If it is upgrade then you can't move the license if it upgraded OEM

warranty - usually not, but like licensing it depends on the small print :(

www.shop4memory.com - will give you an idea of what ram costs

You can just use the windows disc to format the hard drive and that will delete everything.

You can't just add 2GB of ram. There is probably 2 slots of ram with 2GB in each, so you would need to add 4GB to go up by 2 because you will loose 2.

Just be wary that some laptops can't be upgraded and won't be able to use more than the ram it started with. So check that first just to be sure.

If it's a 32 bit laptop then 4GB is the max it can take

most laptop with 4GB will be supplied with a pair of 2GB so you would have to remove a 2GB , and buy 4Gb just to get to 6GB

use cpuz to see what is in your laptop
