I did this last year and it sure is a challenge, apart from going over the highest mountain pass in Ireland, don't under estimate the later climb, it nearly done me in.

You have a great choice around Tralee
Routes out from all sides of the town.
    (1) Head out towards Dingle and head over the Conor Pass and back in trough Lispole/Anuacaul (Chain Gang Sportive route) also if your up for add add the extra 24miles by taking in slea head (100k min)
    (2) The Lacey Cup route which heads out to Anuascaul and turns left after the town and heads back in through Inch. Left in Casltmaine and back into Tralee. (70-80km)
    (4) Head out towards Ballyhigue and around kerry head (60Km)
    (5) Tralee-Castleisland-Farranfore-Killarney-Tralee (80km)

Just a few to keep occupied for a few days
Plenty of spots to stop for a cofee break aswell

If you want something short but Very Memorable, take the road for Castlemaine (N70) and turn right about a mile before it, taking the 'short-cut' back to Tralee (it's called The Short Mountain' locally).
Tell us how you get on if you try it.

Thanks for the suggestions I was actually looking at that hill between Tralee & Castlemaine from the car and wondering if there was a way over it. Funnights i will definately do that route (though as I live in Wicklow I would question the highest pass tag :D). Thanks for all the suggestions i will keep you informed.

That 'hill' was used on one stage in the Tour of Ireland away back when Kelly and Roche were in it.
