Hey all, was hoping to get a little advice about purchasing a bike. I've finally decided to ditch the car for fitness and convenience as I'll be moving to London soon and the 4 wheels will be impractical in the city!

    My needs are as follows...
    • Good bike for commuting daily between 12km and 16km round trip.
    • Nothing that looks too fancy as I don't want to attract too much attention from would be thieves (I've already planned to get 2 locks so I dunno if this should be a worry?)

I'll be getting the bike through the bike to work scheme so my budget (before the discount) is 350 and I'll have to use this shop.

    http://eurocycles.com/ie

If anyone could offer advice or maybe throw me a few idea's on what models I should be looking at I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks

Your budget is going to be an issue if you expect to get a decent bike, various other items and two locks for €350.

By the way, are you a boy or a child?

Thats just for the bike, rest of the gear not included. Not really sure on what I should be spending so advice would be appreciated..!

Strange question? 24 y/o male if its relevant.

Not really so strange! A different bike would be recommended for you than for, say, a small woman!

Why do you have to buy the bicycle on the site you listed? Pity you can't buy, say, in gazellebicycles.ie (site seems to be down at the moment, but they sell very nice Dutch bicycles for the same price as in the Netherlands - bicycles designed for city cycling), or in any of the many shops listed here http://taxfreebicycles.com/ which have a multiplicity of brands and types.

The company I work with deal specifically through that shop as far as I understand it!

Going back to the idea of second hand to be honest, I've been looking at these,

    http://www.dublinbikeman.com/MensBikes.htm#21inch

    Specifically:

ISP, 57cm, 10 speed, new tyres and inner tubes, new brake pads, Sprint suede saddle, dual brake levers, new gear shifters ,200€

Any thoughts? They're old but dya think it'd be suitable for a commute with a bit of fun on the weekends?

I don't know the brands on that site - by the way, the Sandymount Green bike shop that was trading under gazellebicycles.ie as well as its own 2wheels.ie, I think it is, has stopped doing Gazelle Dutch bikes.
