Well Road, Douglas..Origin of name

    Often wondered why the Well road is called such. someone told me that there is a well on grounds off the road towards the estuary opposite the road to Hettyfield.

    Not sure but a good starting point might be to look at the ordnance survey of Ireland site www.osi.ie, you can pan over the current satellite photo of the well road and then click back to the old maps that date back to the mid 19th century.
