Fuel filter on a laguna

Car died on Friday after I let it run down to the last drop of petrol earlier that day
Here's the silly question, where is the fuel filter on a Renault laguna 01 petrol
Car still won't start and I've checked all other areas that might be causing problems so now I'm guessing that it's either the fuel filter or pump that is the problem, so where exactly is the fuel filter?

When you turn on the ignition can you hear the pump priming? To be sure lift up the rear seat and stick your ear to the floor and get someone to turn on the ignition. You should hear the pump humming.

On some(can't remember off the top of my head which) the fuel filter should be in line with the fuel pipes, under the car, beside the fuel tank, if its not there then its an in tank pump so is in with the fuel pump assembly.
