I am just looking for advice cleaning to try and get rid of dust spots on my Pentax K-X. They are quite obvious in lighter coloured parts of my photos . Where is the most likely cause and what is the best way to get rid of them- I have no camera shop near. Is it the sensor behind the mirror or even the lens? I have used the shake function but it makes no difference. I ordered a cleaning kit off Ebay but I want to make sure I dont make a balls of the camera when it comes so any help is welcomed.

It is probably the sensor, you will need to lock the mirror up, have a look
at your manual if you are not sure how to do this, then I find getting someone
to hold the camera for you so that it is pointing to the ground, use a blower
to displace any dust which should fall out of the camera and not just blow it
around inside. Check it again and if it is still dirty, you probably need a wet
clean. This is not as scary to do as you think and if you take your time and
follow instructions you will be grand. Make sure you get the right size swabs
    for your sensor!

As Rainbowsend says - use a blower, but first mount your camera to a tripod and rotate it so sensor will be faced down. Don't use compressed air. Regular blower would be good enough. If you need wet cleaning then look on youtube first and get right swabs.
Some time ago I was looking for sensor cleaning and viewfinder cleaning service and I asked for a quote few shops.
Berminghamcameras charge €80 for full cleaning (Canon), swabs costs €65.
Conns charge €40 for cleaning and they didn't have swabs in stock.
Eventually I used giottos blower and I'm happy. There is hardly visible dust in viewfinder, but I don't mind.
