Anyone have any good stories about that mad auld bag who's been running the Santry Avenue Post Office for a million years?

She was the one who told newspapers in 1970 that she would withhold any contraceptives that came through her post office!!
Mena Cribben (aka Mena Bean Ui Chribin), aged 84 and mother of six, has been the postmistress of Santry Avenue Post Office for over fifty years. During this time, she has also been one of the most vocal spokespersons for the Ultra-Conservative Catholic strand of Irish politics having been active not least with the Irish Family League, Family Rights Group, Mna na hEireann, Irish Housewives Union and Ograchas Naoimh Papain.

Perhaps most infamously known for her role in the 2009 Roscommon family incest case, namely that she provided advice and (more than likely) funding for a legal action to stop the State from taking six neglected children into care, Cribben has been active in reactionary politics since the 1960s.

Least she stuck to her completely wacky belief system..unlike the stickies :)

She would have been fairly active in various community efforts in the 'mun back in the 70's

i was in there about 3 years ago for something and an old woman came out from the back demanding to know who i was, she was ushered back inside by one of the younger people working there, she struck me as being a bit loopy

    Thread is locked.

    And from the forum's charter..
This is a simple one guys.

Dublin has been blessed with a wealth of street charactors, from 'Bang-Bang' to 'Forty Coats' to 'Crazy Mary' on O'Connell St, and even some talented and long established street entertainers.

Lets show these people the respect they deserve, stop being so judgemental and insulting about them. In their own small way they've made Dublin the wonderful place it is today.

Whilst infringing upon this rule isn't a banning offence, continue and we (Moderators) will reserve the right to issue warnings/infractions or bannings as we see fit.
