I have a Maycom AR 108. It is a bit of a pain to program but it can't be beaten at the price. Really good performance & fits in a shirt pocket.

By the way it also covers Marine - brilliant during the Volvo race.

If you are not technical, Maplins are great, if you are technical, they are annoying. But my God they are expensive, I'd say your best bet is go online.

You can get a good deal on adverts.ie. There's always someone selling on equipment. Always check the gear out before you buy. Battery leakage is something to be beware of.
