Any information on the exact days, times and length of rehearsals/services would be appreciated, as well as any info on the size of the choir, and ratio of mature to school leaving age students.

I am (will be) a masters student coming from a university chamber choir background, so I fully understand the level of commitment involved.

    Thank you!

As far as I know they still rehearse on Thursday evenings and also do the morning mass on a Sunday with rehearsals before that. Possibly Tuesdays aswell. The rehearsals are about an hour before the services which are again about half an hour to an hour.

The size of the choir fluctuates quite a bit from what I can remember from being there, around 30 individuals averaged I guess.

Thanks so much for the info. Would really love to get involved, but it may be a stretch fitting it in with my masters and family life.

Coming from three years of voice training, choral singing and plainchant in Maynooth and am aware that if I don't use it, I'll lose it!

There are other choirs in Trinity which have less demanding rehearsal schedules. Singers (both Trinity and Boydell), for example rehearse once a week and are most excellent! Not biased here at all. >.>

Current choir member here! All the previous info is right, I'm just going to refine it a bit since you were asking for exact information.

We do two services a week during term time: Evensong on Thursday evenings and Eucharist on Sunday mornings. I'm afraid that I can't tell you how long each service is, but I think we finish up Evensong around 6, and we're out of Eucharist before noon. Don't quote me on it though.

    Evensong
    Rehearsal: Tues 5 - 6, Thurs 4 - 5.15
    Service: Thurs 5.15 - 6ish?

    Eucharist
    Rehearsal: Sun 9.30 - 10.15
    Service Sun 10.45 - 12ish?

Re: membership, the choir is mostly made up of undergrads who would have started college as school-leavers, but there are Master's students as well, albeit in a minority. Still, you're going to get that with anything other than a specifically postgrad society, I'd say!

I think officially there are between 30 and 40 members, but I can't remember the exact figure. Because of lecture scheduling and things, the choir tends to settle into those who can do Sundays and those who can do Thursdays, so on any given day numbers tend to hover more around the 16 - 20 mark. The full choir usually only manages to assemble for the two main services, the Carol Service at Christmas and the Trinity Monday service at the end of the year.

If the schedule does seem a bit demanding, rest assured that lots of people find they can only ever do Evensong or only ever do Eucharist. We also rehearse the material the same week that we sing it, so if you miss a week completely then you won't be at any particular disadvantage when you come back.

We'll have a stand at Freshers' Week, so come down to us! :)

Thank you so much for the long post. It's a lot to think about.

Thanks also to the previous poster for the info on other choirs.
