Hi, I received some redundancy from my last job and was means tested on this when my JB ran out and was switched to JA. My allowance was reduced and I am finding it hard going making ends meet and I am eating into my savings. Can I ask to be re-tested. Can I give the kids some of the redundancy to reduce it a bit.It is not a fortune and I worked 18 years to get it. Thanks for any help.

When your savings get to 20k they will not be counted as means. As your circumstances have changed you can apply to be re-tested.

Thanks for the link. However I would like to know if it is allowed that I give some money to the kids for their college fund and declare this when I ask to be re-means tested.I can then show where the money went and show that everything is above board.Does anyone have experience of this ?

You would need to show that the money is not recoverable by you,you might need to set up a trust fund ect, also their may be tax issues.
