    Hi All
I'm trying to pick up the hotbird satellite on the aldi dish and receiver. (Already have astra 28 channels installed on the lidl set up).
Anyway I can only seem to pick up a few channels with hotbird satellite. maybe 20 or 30. Quality is at 25% so I need to play around with it a bit to improve this. But there are a few settings when setting up I'm not sure what they should be at. scan mode? frequency? fta on or off? etc. Also does it matter what way the lnb itself is rotated in the bracket?
    Cheers

WhereAbouts are you in ireland? Too far north or west and your chances of getting that signal strength and quality up on a 60 cm dish is low to impossible.

For Hotbird on the island of Ireland, this will vary from about -13 to -16 degrees (negative skew), when facing the dish, turn the lnb clockwise from vertical & adjust for best signal quality.

Thanks folks. I'm in the midlands. I will try rotating the lnb when the rain stops:D

No rain up here in Donegal today, for once!!
Always managed to get Hotbird up here on 60cm, or zone 2 Sky dishes.

Yeah got that done this morning and quality shot up to 65% by rotating lnb. I wonder though am I receiving all the channels I can possibly receive? Does it matter what settings I pick before running the search? What frequency is best?

    Cheers

All the 13 east tp frequencies are listed here.

    Thanks Peter.
Yes I'm making some progress now. Does anyone have there's set up and what frequency (tp) are you using to give a good variety of channels? There are 95 different tp's there.

    cheers

I'm in Roscommon and tuned one for a customer the other day. You should be picking up 500+ channels. With a 60cm dish you will have a job to fine tune it as the signal well not be better than 50%. If you don't tune it right channels may drop in heavy rain.

Don't edit the tp's, just select the satellite and do a full scan. Enable nit and it will update all tp's from the satellites

Each tp frequency, when scanned, will only give you the channels on that tp (kinda the whole point of the list). As mentioned already, if you want everything, just do a full scan.

Yep picked up 700+. A lot repeat themselves and more are blank. Did you mean by enable nit to turn network to ON? And now for the tuning. Should I be able to do this with the remote control for the receiver?

    Much appreciate all the help

Tuning? I would think he was referring to the dish alignment.

Yes, Nit allows the box to get the information for all transponders off the first transponder it connects to. You should always enable it for your first full scan.

Sorry, by tuning I meant alignment. With a smaller dish and a weaker signal it needs to be better aligned and channels may drop out in heavy rain. Next time I install for hotbird I'd use a bigger dish as a 60cm Sky dish was barely big enough for the north west of Ireland.

The bigger dish would be less forgiving of poor alignment.

I was trying to tune it in to make clear a few fuzzy channels.
But of course I messed up. Did more harm than good. Then tried to
scan again but ended up with only 360 channels. couldnt get the quality to go above 0!
However list in tp has gone from 95 to 186?? I thought this would have been a good thing. Will have a look at it again tomorrow. Does it matter much what weather is like when you scan? Very cloudy when i last tried.

    Hi guys
I'm based in Cork and have two 60cm dishes 19/28. Would like to get hotbird 13 what is the best low cost option?

would a 60cm dish suffice ? could i share a second lnb on one of those dishes, and if so which of my existing dishes would be best to attach a second lnb

    any help would be great
    Thanks

If you want to try an offset lnb for 13E, the dish pointed at 19 would seem like the obvious candidate. However, I'm not so sure if a 6 degree separation can be made to work to the optimum with a 60cm dish, as the best spot for each lnb would probably partially overlap the other.

You might be better off using 1 dish for 28 & 19, with the other for 13. Experiment, I suppose & see what kind of signals you can get.

A normal 60cm dish is no good for hotbird here. A sky zone 2 dish does perform better. Idealy 80cm plus will give you reliable reception on some of the tricky transponders, which there is a few. Mainly dvbs2 transponders. I've installed lots of polish setups, which I always use 80cm as a minimum unless the customer knows best!
