Cartell- basic info wrong

Went to see a car yday and decided to get a 3 star check on car tell before going. Car had been advertised as a 177 bhp wit 128 emissions which is what one would expect for car of that type. Cartell report was sent onto me by email. Car was previously imported and as such had uk check done all ok and details matched details of advert. However the check on the Irish system recorded the car as bein 136bhp with 153 emissions. This confused us as we had expected to it be as advertised and slightly put us off the car, however we did continue onto see it and checked the reg cert and found that the car was infact as advertised and NOT as cartell had stated. I am v miffed at this as I paid €35 to have this check done only to find that cartell whos business it is to put ur mind at rest about such things bein a cause of confusion. Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure if u give any main dealer a reg number of a car they can provide u with such basic info. Now this is only a minor thing but it does put a doubt in ones mind as to their reliability. If such a basic thing is incorrect then perhaps there may be other inaccuracies?!

Was goin to ring/email cartell about this but as I was goin through report emails sent to me I came across the obligatory caveat " While the Company makes every effort to ensure that the information contained in this report is accurate, the Company can make no representations or warranties as to the accuracy or reliability of any information provided in this report and shall not be responsible for any error or omission in the information supplied to you" so decided not to bother even wasting my time as I dont think I will get any satisfaction.

getting a possible 35€ credit or refund is worth a quick email/letter showing the discrepancy...never know when you may want another report..

sounds like someone imported the car as a lower spec model for a cheaper VRT payment.

Surely Cartell are more likely to refund your money than anyone posting here?

You should never trust any of those services completely - mistakes are quite common, and not always the companies' fault. I wouldn't even bother writing a letter - a quick call should get you your money back straight away.

O i accept that mistakes are common and thats fine. But its the facts that this is basic info and that they themselves provided me with 2 conflicting pieces of info that gets on my goat.

So the car is on the Irish system as the higher hp and lower emissions, I wonder what the uk v5 says, is there any way to cross reference the chassis number with Audi?

car was on uk and is now on irish system as 177bhp and 128g/km co2 but cartell provided report saying it was on irish system as 136bhp and 153g/km co2.

Which would put it in a lower tax band over here so maybe that's what they did?

Basically all Cartell (and the others) do is collect info and sell it on to customers. They don't check it at all, so mistakes in = mistakes out. I kind of agree with you that if you're paying €35 you'd expect them to get it right, it's just that that's not always the way it works. This is why it's important to always look at reports in the context of the bigger picture, rather than alone. On the upside, I don't think you'll have any problem getting a refund.

Totally agree always take d bigger picture, turned out to b in perfect condition well minded car from a genuine seller who was able to show all records including sales receipt from uk. Ended up buyin and am v happy with my buy. Thankfully I had someone who has a similar car and good mechanical knowledge with me so knew it inside out. But had someone with limited knowledge of cars been relying solely on cartell seen this it wld more than likely put them off the car and mean the genuine seller loose on a possible sale.
Yep hopefully there won't be a prob anyway ;)

You cannot just do that. Revenue will go by what is on the UK V5 registration document that you need to produce when importing a car.

You've seen all the "1.3 on logbook" stuff that goes around right?

And for what it's worth, when I've imported in the past the people in the VRO never looked at the spec info on the V5 to make sure it was the same as the printed VRT quote I handed them. At least not while I was sitting there.

The 1.3 on the log book were Jap imported stuff and these days Revenue are alot more strict. If the car's VIN is not on the NCT's database they have to revert to Revenue who contact the manufacturer afaik.

That's only since the NCT took over though.

They were doing it on "premium" branded cars before that though. Vrt on extras was the driving force behind it.
