Diesel in a Petrol Lanos?! Help!

    Hi all,

First time poster here and long time lurker, trying to get some help and advice.

Basically, as the tittle says. My girlfriend reckons she has put Diesel into her Petrol Daewoo Lanos. I've checked the symptoms, and it's running horrible. She drove the car about6 miles after putting it in, and asked me why it seemed so rough and 'juddery' :p

What can I do here lads? The car is stuck in the middle of nowhere and I would to drain the tank, and flush it with new fuel.

Has anyone any experience of these cars? It's a 00 Daewoo Lanos.

There seems to be two small rubber grommets on the underneath of the fuel tank, does anyone know if these are drain plugs?

Also, I tried getting in at the tank from under the rear seat, but getting at the fuel pump and filter looks messy.

Anyone have any ideas or can help in anyway, it would be greatly appriciated as you'll be digging me out of a small hole.

I saw one of those go on adverts.ie for €300, it had very little mileage.

I don't know what to do with your car as it is, and I hope this doesnt come across as unhelpful but keep the value in mind if you end up looking at an expensive bill to repair the car. Hopefully you can repair it but since she went 6 miles you may be in trouble.

    Best of luck!

If it starts with the wrong fuel keep driving and topping with petrol as often as possible. The worst that can happen is that some unburnt fuel will end up in the engine oil, but that is not a real problem in small doses.

Once the car has used most of the diesel get the engine oil replaced as a precaution.

    Thanks for the replies!

@Engrish? - I'm aware of the value of the car, it's in decent enough condition at the moment, and I'm just looking for some tips here, as I would save a few quid trying to do the job myself.

@Samih - I'm not sure that topping it up with petrol would be wise at this this stage, as she has put about 25 euros worth of Diesel into it.. Bah! What a nightmare.

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever drained one of these tanks before, and if so what's involved? Surely, it can't be that difficult?! :)

Get a syphon / hose and try get as much fuel out as possible. There's probably about 15L needs to come out. Then to up with petrol.

Or you could try find where the fuel line connects to the common rail, disconnect, attach suitable tube. The force the fuel pump to turn on, could short its relay. This will pump out the tank in a minute or so, but don't recomend it...
