Despite a few issues I had with my ex, I think it mainly came down to him having little respect for me. He is wanting to try again. Is it possible that he could change?

    Thanks for any feed back.

If he didn't respect you the first time, what's changed to make you think he will this time?
And more to the point, why would you want to be with someone who has no respect for you?

I guess you're right. I've no reason to believe he will respect me now, apart from the fact he is older, and realises he didn't then.
Should we reunite - I do worry things will fall back to the way they were soon after.

I just wish I had a replacement from him. We split 2 years ago and I'm still alone.
I'm at an age where all friends are married and settled, no one to go out with and Internet Dating is going no where for me.

In what way did he show lack of respect? Does he want to get back and if do how has he proven he has changed?

    Hi OP.

Everyone changes. All the time. In many many ways. Have you changed in the last ten years ? Have you learned to be better at things than you were ? if you haven't then you are a very unusual person.

It all depends what the issue was, how serious and ingrained it was, how hurt you might be, and in what way your ex claims he has changed.

The biggest question is also do you want him ? love him ?

Can you go out on a date him and explore his current personality ? and talk to his friends ? What do you hear on the grapevine ?

It is far from unknown for couple to split and get together again later, even divorce and remarry !

    Hi there :)

I am in a similar situation myself. Going through a rough patch with my other half. Says there needs to be changes for a future together...

I have been thinking and reflecting these past few weeks as to why do this, how this happened and what I can do to make things better. I've had to resort to difficult decisions but I am happy with my choices, I'm becoming a better person as the days roll by bit by bit. She can see this and is very happy at what she sees. She needed to make some changes too and I can see them emerging too :)

People can change for the better for themselves and others, you need to give them time to show it :)

i agree you will have to be clearer in what you mean by he didnt respect you. that can mean many different things to different people. give examples? only then could we judge if its likely to be something that may have changed because he's older or if its just something thats part of his character.

There is the only reason you want to believe him. He won't respect you now because you're settling for him as the best of a bad lot. Trust yourself that you can do better.
