Lites group and other sales jobs?

Hi, I was on jobs.ie and I came across this
    http://www.jobs.ie/ApplyForJob.aspx?Id=1174156

I was working for Total Fundraising for all of two days before getting fired for not hitting my target of signing 7 people per day up to donate to charities monthly.
I'm a little cynical about going for these jobs. I think I would be good if I had a chance to get used to it, but how much of a chance would I get?
I was talking to street fundraisers from Amnesty and they said they'd give two weeks to get used to the job before letting someone go for underperformance.
I'm happy to move down the country, but I don't like the idea of moving down for a job and then getting fired. Any advice?

I haven't heard of Lites Group before but having said that they appear from their ad to be a commission-only door to door operation which means its a crap job ( I don't mean to be overly blunt but thats how I see it ).

Fundraising is another one - approaching complete stranger and asking their bank details or asking for money from them is a very tough game at the best of times and even worse given the recession - another crap job.

I'm not sure what you want folks here to say to you - my opinion is that a rubbish job is just that...

I'm just wondering is there any point in moving down the country for a job that I could get fired from? I'll take any job I can get at this stage as I'm not qualified and only have a few months worth of waitressing and administration experience.

I know quite a few people who have worked in promotions for the Lites Group and enjoyed working there. They got good hours and good money and the management seemed reasonable.

With that being said, you're setting yourself up for frustration and hurt if you take a door-to-door sales job. They're often commission only and are rather rootless in hiring and firing staff. It's really a case of "either perform well immediately or you're gone" which is enough stress to be under without the added fact that if you don't make sales, you don't get money.

If something in Dublin comes up, by all means go for it, but I would not advise you to move out of the county to do a door-to-door job.

Within the first 12 months, you can get fired from ANY job for next-to-no reason.

Worked for Lites in Cork. I did promotions and merchandising for them. Paid well and found them professional. Would recommend them for anyone looking for marketing experience. Good fun too!

    Hi Kpendred,
Just wondering what exactly was the work, is it in-store promotions or is there door-to-door involved? See they are advertising part-time work at the moment, was thinking about applying. Thanks!

    Hi Whirlie,

I think they have a mix of jobs. They have in-store and they also do door-to-door. Someone I know did some door-to-door for a while for them, very tough job. Great experience though and paid very well and they gave him a lot of training. What does the ad say?

In fairness the ad says in-store demos, I was just concerned about places advertising one kind of role and then trying to talk you into another. Think will apply, am going back to college part-time after taking redundency and the hours and days they are offering would suit me perfectly.
Thanks for the response, appreciate it.
