Applied for job, still no interviews

    Hey guys

Looking for a bit of advice.

I applied a couple of graduate positions in the last couple of months. I still haven't heard anything back from any of the positions yet. I know the companies haven't called anyone for interviews yet as no one in my course has been called either and I would be certain that someone of us would have been called if they had interviewed for the position

Anyway I'm just wondering how acceptable is it to start contacting the companies in question and asking them what the story is and when interviews will be. What way would you contact them? email or phone?

And just in case anyone thinks i'm being pedantic, I applied one job last February and still haven't heard anything.

Get out of the country. The place is run by criminals. I had the exact same problem, leaving the country solved it. Sorry, but it's the only real option in Ireland these days.

Thanks for that advice..... But I really only wanted advice relating to the question i asked. So maybe next time you post you'll stick to that. if I want advice on what to do about moving I would have asked it

And besides i'm sick of people telling me to get out of the country especially because I'm an engineer in the construction industry. It is getting a bit repetitive, Maybe I don't want to leave the country, maybe I can't due to family reasons, maybe I feel that some people have to stay in the country to try and get the country moving again while the rest of ye move off to Australia or where ever only to come back when things get good, If we all fecked off I would doubt the country will get back to pre-boom times by itself......... rant over.

Yeah I'd ring to follow up. Even just to make sure they got your application and then you could ask more about the position being advertised and things like that.

I'd definitely ring or email to follow up. I've done so after about a week or two of the deadline to apply for the job passing, to find out if candidates have been shortlisted for interview yet. Usually get a pleasant response too and it shows you're really interested in the position. No point hanging about wondering what's happening (I is very impatient:o)

Cheers for the advice guys, I'm very impatient at this stage. But then in all fairness advertising a job last February and still not interviewing anyone 6 months later would make anyone impatient.

I better get emailing them so and see what the story is.

Call the HR dept. You'll get nothing back via email. You'll also promote the perception of yourself as someone who is proactive. Don't sound frustrated or annoyed if you ring, make sure you sound enthusiastic.....explain you're very keen to work for them and really interested in understanding more about where the hiring process has got to etc etc.

    Good luck.

I would contact them to see what their story is. Some companies however are just terrible at acknowledging applications. Would you mind telling me which companies they are with? I applied to one company in October 2 years ago and then didn't get any response from them until the following May - asking me to interview for a different position.

Also a phone call may be a better option. I tried emailing this company and all I heard back was that my file was still being reviewed.

Oh god and I thought I was bad waiting 6 months, 2 years is ridiculous.

Don't want to be bad mouthing any company on here just in case they are still reviewing my application, I'll pm you the name of them, they are all in the construction industry

Cheers for the PM. Didn't mean that to sound like I was waiting 2 years, it was nearly 9 months(from October '10 - May '11). Anyway we are in totally unrelated sectors so no company crossover as I had suspected.
