For a start it won't have the same logon credentials as your old one. You'll need to log in to the zyxel one and update that. (The details from your ISP, username and password).

Did you configure the Zyxel with your ISPs settings? Let us know your ISP and we can give you them, also try connecting to the box directly with an ethernet cable to rule out wifi issues

    isp is eircom

Make sure the Zyxel is configured with these settings. You can access these settings from the routers gateway page, usually something like 192.168.1.254, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 etc.

Make sure the modem is set to pppoe and is not in bridge mode, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work if the settings are correct, is it an Eircom supplied Zyxel?

Do you have encryption switch on as the they differ for both routers

Is the DSL light on the new one light up constantly, or flashing? Can you post a screen shot of the status page of the modem.

    Can you ping 8.8.8.8?

dsl light on constant. pinged 8.8.8.8.
    request timed out 3 times.
then reply from 192.168.1.5: destination host unreachable

Log to the router and find test page (give exact router model if you need help)

Run the tests to check the connection.

Make sure that user/pass are correct.

Have you tried deleting the wireless network and re-creating it/entering key? does the laptop support the encryption version of the router? Try WEP (Vista has issues with WPA)

You mean you had internet connection when on the cable?
So it's PC problem, not router problem.

Get a linux livecd [1] (no need to install anything, just burn & boot), test if wifi works. If it's OK then hardware is OK, but you have a problem with windows .
