I am disposing of my iphone so did a final backup and cleared all settings etc

But I forgot i wanted to use some of my notes

I've located the backup , and browsed for some software that will extract the files but its looking for 18 euro - I wouldn't mind but its only the NOTES I'm interested in not all data

I understand this is the file name
    ca94ddcbc43023de95c4e816bd760467e53b0ea4

Any suggestions ? (Oh i found free software but its for mac)

I think I could restore to the phone and then email the relevant ones from there but seems a bigger task than it beed be

Any suggestions genuinely appreciated as some of the notes are important

Is there any chance that you made backups to icloud? It backs up your notes.

You don't have to actively do it,it does it when the phone is connected to wifi and charging unless you didn't have it set up at all. It might be worth a look.

Also, if you have notes synched with GMAIL, they will appear in you inbox as mail from you

This works with my ipad , but not with my old ipod touch, is it as simple as clicking a checkbox on itunes

It's a setting on the iphone (and I assume the touch) Go to "Settings>Mail, Contacts etc" then under accounts tap "Gmail" and flick notes from off to on
