worth a punt at half that price perhaps.

edit : front bumper replaced? really does smack of an ex garda car, otherwise fair balls to whoever done near half a million in a 1.8 petrol mondeo.

High mileage as you can see.

Assuming all servicing was done on time and mainly motorway miles, would any of my learned fellow posters consider buying this?

Are you mad! You will have to spend x5 times the price fixing bits and pieces from wear and tear.
Its petrol, and (not all) a lot of company cars get abuse, you would need to be getting that for €500, and even at that I wouldn't go near it.

Not he first time I've heard of a mega miler Mondeo in recent years...

Heres a half a million mile 2004 Mondeo sold in 2009

If I were going for that car I'd want it for far less mind you. Nearer a 3 figure amount is much more acceptable with those miles

I know of a 2007 Passat tdi that was bought for €1100 with just over 300k on it recently so given the inflated value of VAGs that Mondeo seems a bit pricey alright.

Both bumpers are a different colour from the rest of the car. Probably coincidence that a Garda Mondeo would have had strobe lights in the bumpers - i'd be checking for extra holes in the roof all the same.

No matter how well it was looked after stuff has gotta be wearing out after that milage. I personally wouldnt buy it.
And the first thought i had when i seen the pic was 'cop car'

For arguments sake, if it was an ex squad car wouldn't that be a good thing?

Given that all servicing would be on time, and that the car would be checked out and repaired after any pursuit?

I'm surprised it managed almost 500,000kms frankly. It's got a current NCT which suggests there's some value in it, but it still can't be worth much.

It's a 110bhp LX "Irish Special". I've great respect for the drivers patience.

Said above, just too many miles on the clock, Look at Roger Federer, class in his day, still looks the part but he's walking like a 70 year old man......

Id say 2nd gear is probably worn out;)

I wouldn't touch it, especially at that price

More chance of it having the stones driven out of it straight from cold than one owned by a standard 1.8 mondeo owner!

If that was the case, I doubt it'd still be running with that milage.

i'd say your average garda car probably spends a lot of its life "switched on" too, engine probably running 18-20 hours a day, spend lots of time idling etc...

would love to see this car motorchecked :)

For three or four hundred quid you might take a punt on getting another 50k out of it. Nothing like the money he's asking for it though.
