does anyone know how to make a very soft brush firmer and stiffer??? it has no backbone and doesn't exfoliate my skin much, it makes great lather though so i want to keep using it.

treeminder, I don't think there is much you can do to improve it. The firmness is dictated mainly by the grade of hair, how densely the knot is packed and the length of the hair (loft).

If you give it a hair cut it may improve but I would leave it as is.

I have a brush like that - usually use it when travelling. I just grip the brush by the base if the hairs to bunch it together more.

The softness is why your badger brush was expensive. The hair comes from the (dead) badger's lower belly and obviously that is not a very large area. That's why it costs more but, as you say, it does make a good lather. Have you used a pre-shave cream like http://www.shaving.ie/products/Proraso-Pre-Shave-Cream.html?
