Asus are making the best android tablets right now. I'm using the TF201 and loving it...

Personally I wouldn't touch a Sony, nowhere near as good.

the more im looking at the asus tablet the more im liking it, and the specs the look really good. i just need to convince myself and the other half that i need it :D

question about the tablet, can you plug a usb drive or for exemple your digital camera and copy the contents of the usb or camera to the tablet?

Got one. and I agree with Bluefoam. It is quite nice and is the best quality/value android tablet. The keyboard is very welcome.

Didn't try to plug a camera via usb but usb dongle works fine as well as full SD on keyboard or micro SD on tablet.

    Paid 500€ for 32gb + keyboard.

Ive seen on the previous asus tablet that from the lock screen you can have gestures and open apps, how do you do tha

Got mine at the weekend (€415 from Amazon.com and brought over by a friend). Loving it so far. Delighted I finally went down the Android tablet route, but not ready to abandon my windows PC just yet (still some Windows only apps that I need, and some USB hardware not yet supported on Android).

I love the fact that I can throw any movie format straight at it, and it works perfectly (unlike my daughter's Acer Iconia a500, which required some fiddling (swapping hardware audio to software driver) to get sound to work correctly). Works perfectly with the RTE Player, and other Flash-based media as well. All in all, a top notch piece of kit. The keyboard has a full-size USB port, that will take a memory stick/external drive without any issues. I understand that you can only use Asus' File Manager to access external drives, but it's a pretty good file manager (though it has crashed the tablet on me twice).

With keyboard connected, it is top-heavy, so can fall-over; something to watch out for. Also the two speakers are positioned on the RHS of the tablet (which doesn't bother me). Sound quality has been very good. Wifi and GPS both seem to work very well, and it's damn fast. Happy android'er.

The Infinity is supposed to be released on the 16th isn't? Might be best holding off until that is released to see what price point it is at and if current tablets fall in price because of it.

I'm not sure, doubtful but should be purchasable from the Internet.

Five of them went up on komplett.ie
    http://komplett.ie/Komplett/catalog/zkb_02tab/01_tablets/default.aspx

That was ~last week I think. They did not last long!
They were the 64gig and dock, still €729...god dayum that is steep.

I hope the 32gig dockless is alot better value.

Nice! How is it compared to ICS?

Want to get home now and check my prime and the gf's tf300.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭D_BEAR

Seems a little faster has google now on the unlock screen. May play around a little more to see anymore differences.

I`m thinking about getting the ASUS TF300, just trying to figure out which models, had the wifi-GPS problems and are they all sorted now?

The Infinity is mad priced, if the other problems ar`nt there on the TF300 models, I`d go for it...

Whats people opinions on it, I`ve read the previous posts, but what about the root/flashing side of it, does it improve it in anyway shape or form?

Edit: This is the cheapest price and place I could find, TF300T-A1, 16gb, blue, €340.

Seems pretty good, what do ya`s think?

You didn't mention where you found it? I presume that price includes the keyboard, in which case it seems pretty competitive. Mine has been great. No regrets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 943 ✭✭✭kenyard

i had a look around at this also as i was in pc world and was liking it a lot the one they had on display..
running jellybean is also a good thing.
    its 499 there with keyboard.
its on komplett.ie for 469 i think it is, so its a small bit of difference.
340 seems very cheap considernig the keyboard is ~100

i didnt realise there are different variants of it either.. might be worth looking into that too

i had read about the wifi gps problems and i think the solution was a dongle or something which you could plug in (awkward but a fix) and i believe that was only free to avail of until the end of this month aka you have 24hrs to apply for it :P

its not a major deal to me though.
besides that im wondering is there any other tablets or anything worth looking at>?

What is the Wifi/GPS problem? Haven't had any issues with my (US-based) model.

Ah crap, sorry about that, it was from Simply Electronics

How do you find it when you using just the tab on its own, weight wise, does it get awkward to hold, is it slippy?

Yes, this is fixed now, the back is not metal and does`nt effect the wif/GPS.
Check out MTR of it, it explains all.

That issue never occured on the tf300

Ahh.. It doesn't include the keyboard for that price, so it's not that competitive. Komplett.ie is cheaper with or without the keyboard.
    lewis wrote: »

I haven't really used it without the keyboard attached, but weight-wise it's fine. It doesn't get slippy as there is a pattern on the back of the screen. With the keyboard attached, you do find that it is top-heavy, so you have to make sure that it doesn't topple over.

So it's not a TF300 problem at all? They never sold the TF300 with a metal back.

Has the prime been discontinued with the TF300 and Infinity released?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 943 ✭✭✭kenyard

it was still available anyway for sure..though more expensive and this is the tf 300 compared to it...

    Good

    Powerful quad-core Tegra 3 processor
Faster Wi-Fi performance than the Prime
    Bold, responsive screen
    Micro-HDMI and microSD slots

    Bad
Not as thin or sturdy as the Transformer Prime
Screen not as outdoors-friendly as the Prime
Camera isn't quite as impressive as the Prime

tbh for nearly 25% more the prime doesnt seem to be worth it.

    They have identical processors surely?

    Different clock speeds

Decided to go with Komplett, of course the Blue one, it seems to be the cheapest I`ve found anywhere..TF700 is due out soon, so my luck the price of the TF300 will drop...to hell with it I`ll get it..

The description threw me off a little.."Product Description Asus Eee Pad Transformer Lite" had to double check that the lite part was`nt some lesser model than the others, though I did`nt see this mentioned anywhere else.

A friend has a Transformer and is super happy with it.

I really find it the unavailability of 3G models bizarre, surely the point of such a mobile device is not having to be restricted to a wifi connection?

I just use my phone as a 3G hotspot. It eliminates the need for a second data contract and only takes a second to set up. It makes more sense than having a 3G enabled tablet as far as I'm concerned...

If you do want one with 3G you are expected to by the higher end version (T700), obviously if you want more features you have to pay a higher price...

Same for me. 100% of the time when I'm out I have my phone with 3G. If I need the tablet to surf when it's away from WiFi I just pair with the phone. No need to pay for 3G twice (and pay a premium for a 3G tablet).

I suppose if the user doesn't have a 3G phone or if the tablet is for a business purpose then having 3G on it would be good. I'd guess that's not the majority of users though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 943 ✭✭✭kenyard

The 300TG is the 3g model and 300TL or something is the 4g model.I fail to see the problem.
You can get the 3g version but it costs more is all and they probably don't have the same agreements in place amazon did for the kindle say so you need to pay.and I reckon most people can just use their phones like the above 2 commenters..
Why pay 50 or 100 more for something u don't need. And end up paying a contract on to keep running.

Not seeing it anywhere but a few sites claimed April-June release ?

Does the keyboard have to be physically docked, or can it be connected through bluetooth? Seems clumsy if the former.

    -1

... so you are gonna lie the tablet down on the flat of a table and type wirelessly...?
its gonna need a stand anyway mate...
the only reason i can see a need for wireless keyobard is if you were using the hdmi to connect to tv and wanted keyboard on ur lap
you can buy wireless keyboards for that anyway for like 20 euro

It's called a Transformer for a reason. If you want to use the keyboard, it has to be docked. The keyboard also has it's own battery and extends the life/recharges the tablet when docked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 Esmimyst

I think the form factor (tablet+dock keyboard) is perfect. I actually barely use the tablet on its own often. The keyboard is a real plus (in addition to the usb port, full sd and extra battery life).

Battery life is good, with or without the dock. Pretty nice to watch a lot of TV episodes while travelling :)

Performance: on ICS, it was not consistant and sometimes frustrating... Now, on Jelly Bean, I've nothing to say expect this: Android rules! It is quite remarkable how much improvement there is.

Overall, I recommend this tablet 200%

You can still install flash on Jellybean. Just find the appropriate flash.apk.

That`s the deal I got and it just came today, on JB already.
The lack of Sky Go and RTE Player would be no where near a good enough reason not to get JB, there both crap.

Few family members have Asus lappys/tabs, never a bad word said about them, so I ordered my TF300T blue 32gb on Thurs, expecting it Mon/Tues. Can't wait for it!:D

Will it come loaded with Jelly Bean or will I need to update myself?

my recommendation would be install flash on 4.0 as i think if you are on that its available in the app store, then update to jellybean.

maybe its not available through the app store now on older versions im not sure even.
but yeah jellybean is update yourself. ill probably order this later myself too :)
although i kinda think i mite hold off till tuesday first and head into currys near me see if i can get a price match also.
