My name is somewhat unusual but I see there are 25 people with my Firstname-Sirname on Linkedin. I wouldn't worry about it. This kind of thing happens regularly on one of our Hotmail accounts.

Sometimes spam emails will send you links and if you click on them, it notifies the sender that your account exists.

Could be phishing. Be wary of any links that you click on like confirming X account. They can send you a link looking exactly like the original site but somewhere else. It might even be a very similar address.

A few years ago, I got sent a picture to a gmail account. Clicking on it brought me to the "gmail log in page". Everything looked completely normal, they even already filled in my user name. However, if you looked in the address bar, you could see that is was something like google.acccounts.com instead of accounts.google.com or something similar. They expect you to enter your password and hey-presto, a hijacked account. A quick glance at the address bar can fool you - a letter change or a moved full stop isn't very noticeable.

... of course it could be innocent and I might just be paranoid.

These type of emails are also to find out if the (your) email address is live for spammers. Once you respond by clicking on the link it informs the spammers it's "live" and presto, spam forever.
