There's a big difference between contract rearing and B&B in my book.

B&B is feed and water the cattle basically, contract rearing is much more involved and potentially awkward.

you need two basic concepts, very clear lines of responsibility, and a very good understanding of your costs.

establishing those two concepts is a lot less basic though

Has anyone here ever taken part in bed and breakfast scheme. What are the rules/ terms of engagement?

The farmer you are sending them to has to put the animals into his herd the same as if he were buying them off you. I inquired about it for reps a few years back and was told that I would also have to spread the slurry produced by them on my own land. I don't know what would happen if either herd had an outbreak of tb during the contract. It isn't worth the hassle.

Sorry for dragging this back up but does anyone know if moving the animals to B&B will effect the DAS time limts?

Long winters around here and the 7 month time limit would be under strain i.e. they could be in shed owners herd for 5 months +

It will I think. Keep one or two light stock and out winter them if you have been well stocked for six months your average stocking rate will be well up.

Technically speaking B&B animals are not allowable for stocking rate for DA
