How long do Jobseeker Allowance last?

I started receiving JA in January of this year...my first time ever since I was made redundant....live alone, no children and currently applying for jobs.

I have no idea how long JA lasts? It says on the slip when I collect JA that the payment is valid until end of this year. Is this the case? If so would I be entitled to reapply or is this ongoing subject to budget of course.

    Thanks

Its the basic "dole" so continues, the only change will be if you spurn every chance to do training/find a job when it may be cut or if the gubberment cuts the rate at the budget.

Jobseekers benefit is based on your prsi contributions and last for roughly a year if you have paid the full contributions once you finish on JSB then you go to jobseekers allowance which is means tested, this is an indefinite payment as in you are able to claim it until you secure employment or go on a training course of some sort.
