Why are companies not offering part time work?

    What is the reason for this when they advertise full time jobs?

    Depends on the company. For some, part time work is just not feasible. For others, the extra paperwork/ expenses of employing two 50% workers as opposed to one 100% doesn't make sense. Yes tohers just never thought about it, because they were always able to get skilled full time workers.

    Hmm interesting point silja...could be to do with insurance purpose.

    What about being more focused in the job than full time workers??

    From personal experience two 50% part timers very rarely work out as well (productivity etc.) as a single full time employee.

    Few reasons are that they still spend as much time getting ready/leaving as a full time employee but it takes up more time obviously being done twice instead. Another is that a full time employee is there every day were as a part timer tend to have a reason being part time (studies, child at home, taking care of parents etc.) which once again tend to cause more wrenches in attendance (once again this is not scientific base, only from experience).

    The biggest issue how ever is usually a question of training; if you got a full timer you can train one person on all new procedures and you can plan any day to do it; with part timers you need to plan it twice (as they are sharing desk etc.) and risk having one person not properly brought up to speed etc.

    In essence part timers are simply more pain then they are worth imho.

    Unless you're running a retail or hospitality operation where you need to cover long hours with busy periods seven days a week part-time employees are inconvenient. In a classic 9-5 environment it's just far simpler to employ, train, manage and replace full-time employees rather than juggling with two or three times as many part-timers. If you see the rota juggling and no-shows you end up when you have multiple part-timers half of whom have short hours and a second competing job you'd know it can be a real problem. In a lot of environments shift handovers can be the biggest source of things being forgotten and mistakes being made during the day. The one exception is probably companies offering job shares for work life balance reasons but they're normally just to existing employees.
