Just watching a Dirty Harry film from 1988 (The Dead Pool) and I've just seen a scene with Liam Neeson and Jim Carey! Thought I was seeing things!

Can you name other films with unexpected actors that you never knew acted together or even actors appearing in films that you never knew about before? Can't think of any others off hand myself.

Was quite surprised to see Ben Stiller in Next Of Kin. Didn't think his career started that early.

Also just watched Dead Poets Society and it took me a few minutes to see that Ethan Hawke from Trianing Day was in it.

Suppose you have to start somewhere.

Josh Charles from the Good Wife and In Treatment is another of the pupils.

Ethan Hawke was in Explorers a few years before Dead Poets Society.

Noticed that as well, recognised him from SWAT though. :)

Fast Times and Ridgemont High - Nicholas Cage pops up frying up some chips, doesn't say a word. Anthony Edwards and Eric Stoltz also have very small parts.

Sticking with Jim Carrey he was in "Peggy Sue gets Married" with Nic Cage and Kathleen Turner. A very young Ben Stiller starred in the Hill billy thriller "Next of Kin" with Liam Neeson, Patrick Swayze and Adam Baldwin.

Ben Stiller appearing alongside John Malkovich in Empire of the Sun was a strange one in retrospect.

Cristian Slater in Star Trek, the undiscovered country.
Ensign who wakes up Captain Sulu.

John C Reilly in Casualties of War, far from comedy but one of his first.

Platoon also started it off a few people as well, John C McGinley being one of them.

Slater is a massive Star Trek fan. He begged for that cameo. He was already at least somewhat famous.

Meg Ryan too, as Goose's wife - one of her first movie roles. (Goose was played by Anthony Edwards, who later hit the big time with E.R.)

Edwards was also in Fast Times at Ridgemont High with a few future stars: Nicholas Cage, Forest Whitaker, and Sean Penn.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

One of the biggest paid actors on american television I once read. Well deserved though tbh.

That's not an early De Niro film.

^ What has that got to do with anything?

"Twins" with DeVito and Schwarzeneggar. I'd loved to have been in the room when that was pitched, I bet it sounded like such a laugh-out-loud romp!

The thread is called EARLY films with unexpected actor combos. De Niro had done everything by the time that movie came out.

Sylvester Stallone had a small, uncredited role as a thug on the subway in Woody Allen's Bananas (1971).

The two would then go on to "star" together again in 1998's Antz.

Even before that, Depp starred in A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Pretty sure Matt Damon was in Mystic Pizza which was also one of Julia Roberts first films.

My favourite "when they were young" is Robert Duvall's now famous performance as Boo Radley in To Kill A Mockingbird which was his first important role.

One of my favourites was spotting Nancy Allen alongside Jack Nicholson
in the excellent THE LAST DETAIL.

how are these unexpected???? surely they're all just early movie roles for said actors:confused:

unexpected(as thread title suggests) to me is taking actors out of their comfort zones one from say comedy and one from say action and put them in a diff role say like romance or somethin

That's what I originally meant but it's all good! Lots of interesting ones all the same.
