Getting rid of cats.

Have a good few cats around our place that we need to get rid of. They are not very tame and cannot be handled.

Rang the local pound and charity and the best they could do was give us a little cage big enough for one cat and charge us a tenner when we bring it in to get it put down.

There are over 10 cats and I'm reluctant to pay over 100 euro plus going to the amount of hardship it would take to catch them all and bring them in one by one.

What are my options for killing them myself at home ? Is it illegal to shoot cats ? Are there poisons or sedatives I can get to add to the food to either kill them or knock them out ?
