Hi just pricing around for wedding cakes at the moment and wondering if we're getting a good deal.
Looking at getting a 3 tier with choc biscuit cake base and 2 sponge on top, plain white icing and 2 figurines on top.
Priced around 300 at moment. Just wondering is this good or bad?
    approx 140ppl.

Average enough price, it can be hard to compare as some cakemakers use top quality ingredients, some use bought cake mix. What really can add to cost is the level of decoration. When you say 'figurines' are these being made by the cakemaker or bought ones? These are time consuming to make so add to cost. Delivery and set up is also part of cost usually so the further away they are the more time out of their day it will take.

you need to state the size of the tiers also. And is delivery included? some places charge extra for delivery, but its not exactly the sort of thing you are going to risk collecting yourself the day before the wedding! And the stand - is this included? Not all cakes can stand on the one the hotel supplies.

Ours was 3 tier, an 8", 10" and 12". Chocolate praline, lemon creme and coffee creme. It was €280, delivered and set up, including stand.

Price doesnt include delivery but it includes cake topper made by the cakemaker and all fresh ingredients.
Cake stand is supplied by the hotel.
Actually got another price from someone else for 225 so looking good :)

€225 for 3 tiers with handmade topper would be quite cheap, just make sure to try samples before going with that person to ensure the ingredients are good quality.

and check that the cake stand supplied by the hotel is suitable for your cake. Our hotel had a stand with three levels, but due to the depth of the cake and the topper the levels were the wrong height. As the chap was setting up the cake himself, he was able to just change it to his own cake stand and only charged me €20 for it, So the cake was originally €260 plus stand at €20.

I would recommend you get them to deliver and set it up - you would be surprised how easily accidents can happen, particularly with something as fragile as a cake. At least if they deliver and set up, if there are any mishaps they will have to sort you a new cake. If you damage it, its tough dodah.
